I'll bite,I use my chop-saw more now than my torch because of the price of gas & oxy. I use my porta-band for alot of accurate cuts, it is cleaner and much faster imo than my chop-saw. Dont need a plasma-cutter although i wish i could afford one.

It really depends on what and where I'm cutting. Plasma, O/A torch, bandsaw, portaband, sawzall - I use them all. My chop saw is out in the shed collecting dust - I never use that.

Depends what i am cutting and how nice i want the parts to fit after cutting. Band saw is my preferred way for mild steel and plasma for SS...Bob

Thanks guys and Dano to! How do you like the portable bandsaws? Any advantages over the horizontal/vertical bandsaws?(besides portability) or are they both really good?

The best method for cutting metal is to have somebody else do it for you.

I use a chop saw mostly, for finer work, I use a cut off wheel in my air grinder.

I use the torch for rough work or for heating up my sandwich at lunch time as long as my wife wrapped it in foil.

If I'm at home I use my chop saw or grinder, if it's really thick I'll use the torch. If it's stainless I'll take it to work and use the shear, plasma or bandsaw. Alum. I'll use a mitre saw for extrusions, shear, plasma, or jigsaw on sheet.

Cold saw for bar stock, plasma cutter for large flats or sheet, sometimes 4 1/2" w/cutoff. sometimes torch on nasty stuff or outside, just depends.

I use the chop saw for cutting all my pipe, square, angle, etc. I use an Oxy-Acetylene rig for everything else. Thats all i have access to at work. At school, we have a Lincoln ProCut 55 plasma, I've used it one time and hated it. I can make a cut 3x smoother and straighter with my Victor than I can with that plasma. I'm not much on the more modern processes, whether it be my welding or cutting process. I still use a stick machine every day, and refuse to run that plasma cutter again after my last experience. Can't afford no fancy portable band saw or anything like that, though I would like to have one of them cold cut chop saws someday.
