42" Hi Def flat screen corner mount.

My wife bought a 42" flatscreen TV and we need it mounted in the corner. It came with brackets to hang on a wall but ours needs to be corner mounted. I made some brackets from 1" sq x 1/8 wall tube and welded 1/4"x2" plates on the end. Prob is there will never be a stud where you need it and the tv weighs about 60 + pounds so i am going to screw some oak strips on the wall into the studs then bolt the brackets into the oak strips. Then there will be a shelf hanging down to set the DVD player and the cable box on (not made yet)...Bob

Thats nice but won't you see the brackets from the front? at the ends? or is it just the right size to cover. Instaed of a cable box some new TVs take cable cards, is yours capable? Definately go HDMI from the cable box to the TV.

Ha! I got ya beat by 5"! Just mess'n with ya. I've got a 47" I'm going to mount in a corner. Mind if I borrow you'r idea? I like it better than the $200 mounts available in stores.

I don't watch it much, i spend way too much time on the comp or in my shop when not working. Someone must like it because everytime i walk in the door its on and nobodys home. LOL.
I got my wood strips up and my corners not 90 degrees as i figured so i am going to tweak the brakets a little in my bender to fit the wall...Bob

Bob,nice brackets.It's amazing how when our better half makes a purchase it sometimes turns into a custom fab/welding job. My wife is forever showing up with pieces missing items...One more excuse to go out in the garage and weld lol... she can't complain about that cause im making something for her.

That looks like a fine job. Do you think that the majority of the brackets could be hidden on a flat mount? The reason that I am asking is I had a similar idea. That is to attach a flat screen over the fireplace mantle. Initially I thought about placing it on the mantle. I made the mantle fairly strong, but when I felt how hefty some of the TVs were I decided against it. I was going to run all of the wiring in the wall from an adjacent cabinet. That way all of the tv accessories would be hidden. I also had the foresight to put a 120 v plug on the mantle. I object to the price of some of the cheap mounts I had seen. Do you know of or have any plans for a mount?

My TV came with small tabs bolted to the back that you hang a wire thru like a picture frame. But they wouldn't work for me. You could bend a 1/4" rod like this o^o with some heavy washers welded on the ends to bolt thru, that would be pretty good if it was hung into a stud. Just a thought...Bob

Another way would be make some wide u brackets from 1/4" x 2" one to screw into the stud and the other to screw into the tv. Then the bolts would be easy to bolt the 2 brackets together. Use 2 brackets on the tv one upper and one lower....Bob

I would only mount a tv on the wall if all the cables would be hidden. Here is one I built for a guy in Cali.
