How do I do antique metal finishes?

I'm all set to build some bookshelves that will look like the attached photo. I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but the metal frame has a brownish antique sort of finish that does not look painted. I'd like to know how to do these sort of finishes. I've seen it on various metal furniture pieces quite a bit lately, but can't find any place that says how to do it. Does anyone here have any ideas where I might find out? Thanks.

I have some other info I will have to find. I think on steel you will be somewhat limited in the patina's available without going the coating route. Also any reaction (aging solution) on hotroll will have to have the oxide layer removed.

Try http://www.sculptnouveau.com they have a bunch of different patinas for different metals. They have one called Japanese Brown that gives the metal a nice old look to it, clear coat it to protect it and you are good to go.

I know there are some other websights that have different patina products as well. I used to have them bookmarked as well, but now I can't find them. I'll post those links if I can (might be on the home computer)
