Which tig Dynasty 200 DX or 350

I want to start learning to tig weld at home just for a hobby. I currently use a Lincoln SP-135 mig and an old Lincoln Weldan Power AC-150 stick. My main use would be mild steel and aluminum under 1/4 inch thickness. I also would like it to be portable. I've read through the spec sheets on both machines. I'm just not sure if it would be a smart move going for the more expensive machine with all the different settings or to start out with a more basic machine then work up to the high end machine.

Dyn200Dx gets my vote

i don't think i would call the Dyn200DX a basic machine by any accounts. the syncro 200 would be the basic starter but is by no means portable and requires a great deal more power to run.
i think the Dyn200DX would suite your needs just fine. the 350 is a great TIG unit but way more than what you need or am likely to use. if you have the extra $$ and just want more amp's then go for it. but i think the Dyn200DX is really more to your needs.

I agree with fun4now, the 200dx is as much machine as you will ever need for home and then some. The 350 is a full on industrial machine and overkill for home use. As far as features go, the 200dx has everything you need, and as far as I know the two welders are nearly idenctical except for the output capacity.

the 350 dose have more features than the 200 but you will not need them in a home shop . the 200DX is well equiped with every thing you will need. the 350 is the replacement for the arowave( way over kill) you could spend the next 10 years just trying to find a way to need to use the extra features.............. if you could figure them out.
the Dyn200DX will take good care of you and give you plenty of features to play with.

Chances are the Dynasty 200DX will handle what you need. If you decide to upgrade later, put it on eBay. As long as you keep it is good shape (cover it, wipe it down regularly, maybe a coat of wax when it is new, etc.) you will get nearly what you paid. The Miller will increase prices each March by about 15% (minimum), so relative to a new machine a used one is a good deal. The bids on used ones surprised me, they really retained their value.

I purchased one "new" that was a static demo unit (never fired-up) at a trade show. Check with your local welding shops.
