A friend at work asked me to fabricate a gun holder based on his sketch on the back of an envelope. I'm not a hunter so I can't tell if it is a good design or a bad one. The idea is to push the stake into the ground and the fork, which will be covered with rubber, holds the barrel of the gun.

Hey Don,
Here's a couple pics of some of the rests I make. Pics #6 & #8 are the adjustable field rests with 2 position heights for prone & sitting. I also make an easy base to add to it to use it on a bench. Maybe these pics will give any of the shooters/hunters on the forum some ideas.

I am going to show pictures of your rests to my friend. It may give him other ideas. Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures.

Nice rests. The first thing I thought of you answered in the bold text. I think if you'll be stationary and have the room that setup will work great. If you're going to be mobile the setup might be a handful. But it'll all really be in how you're using it.
Either way, nice job.

My friend said that he will hike in to his hunting site and then set up and stay there for a period of time and enjoy the surroundings and hunt if anything came along. He has always enjoyed the outdoors and he likes camping. This year his sister got re-married so it will also be a chance to spend some time with his new brother in law.

Hey Don,
I went back thru my project photo file & found a couple more that will provide better detail. If you look at pic #6, you can see a small tab to the left of the upper support. That is a belt clip I made & welded on so I can carry it easily. These additonal pics show how the base is made & the belt clip use on my bro's belt.
Denny
Addendum: I forgot to mention the jig I designed & built to make these. I'll dig up those pics & post them here on this thread.Attached FilesLast edited by yorkiepap; 11-06-2010, 02:07 PM.* Complete welding, machine, & fab shop *

I hope that my selection of 1/2" x 1/16" wall square tubing will be rigid and strong enough for my the rifle rest for my friend.
