mostly over at SFT due to the site owner got a good deal on some used [ones]...
They were used came out of an automotive supplier factory they were upgrading to newer (faster) units, they had been set up on an automated line. That was me who got them. I still have 2 or 3 left they are in storage right now. I have sold 3 of the units, so I got my money out of them. Need to pull one out of storage and set it up in my shop just no time. I sold the one I had in my shop.
any how from what i gathered they are not the same animal, the plasma torches were crazy expensive
any how it was lightly coverd here and i suspect a little more there.
Yes the torches, are very expensive but part of that is they are relatively a low volume item, not alot of people are out there doing plasma welding. I have spoke with the engineers at Miller about them getting into Plamsa welding and their short answer was no, basically it is too small a market to be getting in to at this time. So will they ever? Who knows, but I was given the impression that not any time soon. That was a year or so ago that I had that conversation, my friend over there, TIG group, has since left Miller.
PAW is a CC process, but a PAW system has to be designed from the beginning to be a PAW. Converting a Dynasty to PAW would require extensive rewiring. I am not an EE, but 2 of my friends are and looked at one of the power sources I got and there is addition controls on the power source (PS), now the PS I got are Thermal Arc units and they have some information on their site, but **** if I can find it since they redesigned their site.
PAW has a niche in the welding world. One of its benefits is you can weld thin material fast and minimize heat input, it came in handy on a zirconium job I did. Keyhole welding with no filler metal is one of the neat things you can do, but the base metal and geometry has to be right.
I have nine files from Thermal they are all .pdf the smallest is 64K to large to post here and the largest is 2.2 meg. I can email them to you if you are interested, just send me a PM with your email.
there was a big ta-do about plasma welders a few years back . mostly over at SFT due to the site owner got a good deal on some used ........or maybe new power sorces...cant remember for shore but i think used. any how from what i gathered they are not the same animal, the plasma torches were crazy expensive
any how it was lightly coverd here and i suspect a little more there. seems to me he (shadetree ) has one. any way.
i have not heard of anything about plasma connected to the Dyn350. don't think Miller dose plasma welding.
