The term "wrought iron" now typically pertains to what you are mentioning, which is just ornamental steel work. Originally, wrought was a classification of iron having to do with it's carbon content and other factors in it composition. Unless it is some specific piece of historical work then it's probably just good ol mild steel and I've used just about everything on it. Mainly just ER 70s on the mig and 6013 or 7018 (even 6011 if I have to) on the go.
