Lee Caps

I have been looking everywhere for the Lee Cap. How many of you have used them or remember them ?

It was a small cap you could wear under your hood, blue and white or gray striped with the manufacturers name (Lee) on a tag that was placed on the front if I remember correctly. Even when they were half worn out, they still looked good.

Does anybody know of any stores that still handle these ? I searched the web about 5 different times and come up with nothing, even Ebay.

I think I tried every word in the dictionary related to caps, hats, beanies, etc.

Below is a picture of a boys engineer cap. This has the same striped design. The one I am referring to has a very small visor and hugs your skull without any bulk on top like the picture. They were very popular in the 80's but I still see a guy once in a while wearing one but not where I can ask him about it.

The caps he is looking for are not the engineer type. He wants more of a cap which fits snug to the head but are made of the same material & coloring as the engineer hats.

Do you know if your farm supply store has a web site ? The farm supply place we have left does not handle any clothing. The other farm supply places we had closed up except for one in the next county. I may end up driving over there.

I spent quite some time searching out what you were looking for. I did an image search in google, yahoo, and dogpile of everything "Lee". It was one of the most enjoyable searches ive done in a very long time and the reasons will be clear to you if you decide to do your own visual search.

I regret to say that I came up empty handed. I found a number of other brands along the way, but nothing imprinted with the Lee brand on it.
Seems that the collective knowledge of this particular style of hat lay solely on your shoulders.

In the mean time, I'll keep my eyes open. Theres got to be something somewhere...

I know what you mean SignWave. I came up with every imaginable piece of headwear and yes I have seen some welders wearing some of that stuff.

I often said in many searches, there has to be something somewhere until I was proven wrong a few times. Now I realize if it was a great product, lasted more than 5 years and people loved it, the production of it was discontinued.

Hey kbar, I have never heard of the style your talking about but the one that I use is the comeaux style and it only cost about 7-8$$ at tractor supply locally and i'm lucky to have several welding supply store's around were I live,

The one's i've gotten have lasted for ever like you said around 4-5yrs and they fit great.

I think that I know exactly what he is talking about with the Lee caps.

I always liked the Lee caps. I liked the blue/white engineer types. They also had them with a shorter bill for welders.

I am however afraid that they quit making them in the late 1970s.

I do recall sending a letter to the Lee Company asking about the caps during that time frame of 30 years ago. I think that I was having a hard time finding the Lee caps at that time and that was the reason for the letter.

The Lee Company's reply was that they were no longer making the caps due to the lack of demand as best as I can remember.

They were truly unhappy in having to do so. The caps had been in production for such a long time.
