Main Electrical at my house question

I hate to butt in, but I am in the process of building a 32x40 shop. It is a pole building. So my new shop sucks, that is sad.
It is the best bang for the buck. I have 3.69 acres so maybe it will look OK. I hope my house doesn't start feeling like a trailer. But if it does, no big deal, I grew up in one, and I don't even do drugs or live off of the government or anything that is stereotyped .
I even have all of my teeth. 39 years old and still not one cavity. How about you.

I looked and looked,,a full foundation up in ct.if you want a metal building,so for bang for the buck,I agree,and Im on 10.5 acres,and where i live is like hooterville,,and every other house had a metal building or poll barn! And its legal to work out of your home!

Is the pole barn attached to the back of the house?

That's what I take issue with. If it's on a farm, then they're normal and nothing wrong with them. I'd still prefer a block building or poured concrete walls.

I just got home a bit ago, the shop is going to be away from the house, new drive and all.
I will not rant anymore, I to would love a block or concrete building. But I have to do the most bang for the buck. I am paying for this shop with the profits I made this year just doing what we do.
I think that is pretty cool and I am proud of it.

Follow the advice of everyone here saying to upgrade. I just did the up grade on my dads place cost about a grand but I also upgraded the garage power too. there was one 110 outlet and one 220 outlet in there. Now there's 110 down each wall spaced six feet apart with 220 to my welder and another to my mill.

The thing with fuses is that if they short they don't interrupt the current immediately. those old screw in fuses are not good. New circuit breakers and GFI's are disigned to blow within .05 of a second or faster. it's fast enough to save your life.
If you have the bucks paysomeone to do it. I did mine my self but I've been working with electricity for twenty years.

I am new rookie to all of Miller Welds Guys. I run my own Garage’s shop (at home) to build custom cars. I had Lincoln Pro-Mig 135 for several years.
The big reason I really need to have Aluminum weld because I work on custom cars at my own garage.

I been have thinking to buy MillerMatic DV12 w/ Spoolmate(#951067) or 212 w/ Spoolmate (#951068).

I concern about my home beside my garage. My house built in 1960's and has old style main (200 amps,?) electrical w/12 plugs and 2 boxed (30 amps) cartridges at wall beside my house in outdoor. Since the MillerMatic 212 require have 230 V/30-210 amps (160 Amps at 24.5 VDC, 60% duty cycle). I am NOT familiar with electrical things.


I have Dryer (Straight Blade Device) outlet n garage. It is 220 Volts/30 amps. And, I never use it. Can I change it to be 220 Volts for welder outlet? Will it work?

Ready for X-Mas vacation

The electrical guy came by last 2 weeks ago and looked at my home’s this one. He will start work on replace new 200 AMP Main box after X-Mas day.. We made agreed that I buy the material likely Main 200AMP box, several breakers, cables, meter box and Weld outlet/wires.

I will buy Millermatic 252 ASAP but First, I rather paid off at electrician’s labor..

What name for outlet? I look at the outlet at Home Depot/Lowe’s. There have different 220V outlet (3 pins) likely holes N straight slot??? I AM REALLY IDIOT.

I need your suggestion to pick what kind of Outlet correctly for weld outlet.

Minimum 8 in thickness, meaning 6 would be better. I'm only butting in, in case time is an issue. I'm sure I'm less qualified than sberry. But, I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last... er, I did wire up a 50 amp welder receptacle, and used 6/2+ground Romex.

Replace newer Electrical Panel Service

Finally, my house replaced newer elec. service panel and add 50 AMP/6-2 wire for welding. Next project I will buy Miller welding 252 in few month..
Cost me for that replaced electrical serivce is $1,700..

I dont know what US electrical codes say, but in Canada, everything has to be mounted on the outside of the building now. It is no longer permissible to run inside a wall cavity.

Here in Denver, mine is also outside.

The electrical guy has Lic. and my hometown utility crew, said it will work with Millermatic 252.. Do I look like Idiot?
