mm180 and spoolmate 100

Hello all;
I am new to this board and to miller products.I am considering a miller 180 and a spoolmate 100 the new spoolgun out now.If these 2 are used together do I need to purchase the spoolgun control sga 100.I keep reading direct connect on the spoolmate documents on the web but I am confused.Any help would be helpful.

It will depend on the serial # of the MM180 as I believe some of the first ones out will need a "connection kit"....but you will not the control box....the spoolmate 100 is direct connect.....

I don't have a spoolgun but recently bought the MM180. I am very pleased with this machine, it is all I thought it would be and more. You won't be disappointed with this machine!

Hello Mike;Well I'll explain more if you go to the pdf manual it explains the switch for regular mig handle and spool handle,then down a little it explains that when the switch is for the regular mig push mode that the machine controls the heat and speed of the wire.The manual never goes into detail of what controls the heat and speed of the spool selection mode.That is what is so confusing with all literature stating direct connect.Now I have all these items on order and the salesmen @ my local miller store put a sga 100 control on the order,and he said that he worked with the main office to fill the order but it all seems conflicting to me.This is the reason for the question.Thanks for the reply,but I'm still confused.

I think I'll be happy when it is all together and working.What I like about this machine is that it puts out enough amperage for my needs and I have a generator already that will put enough input amperage to run the unit in the field.For what I need it for I think it will work great as long as the weather cooperates with me and the wind stays down,since this machine is to low in amperage to spray an ar/he mix.Thanks for the reply!

Tommie,

You do not need the SGA 100 to attach the Spoolmate 100 to your Millermatic 180. The SGA 100 would only be needed if you wanted to attach the Spoolmate 3035 or Spoolmate 3445 to your machine.

If your Millermatic 180 has a serial number before LH210051N you will need the 300409 retro-fit kit to attach the Spoolmate 100. If was built after that serial number then you would just use the switch that is included with the Spoolmate 100.
