  • Hello all - im new to this board

I work on metal sculptures in my back yard and having my first art show very soon. in fact i have to have the stuff submitted by friday. THIS FRIDAY AHH.

tonight, at about 2 am in the morning, my miller plasma cutter (spectrum 125c) started having the trouble light light up and the shutdown system kicked into effect...i checked the power source and the torch, switched the the tips, but its not making a difference. does anyone know what this stuff means? any quick fixes to hold me off until friday?

should i bite the bullett and call someone

also...is anyone else out there obsessed with cutting metal this way?mmm

wow, interesting piece. back up a bit and take another photo so that we can see the whole thing. I like the birds.

as for your plasma, im not sure what to tell you. Im not very good at doing diagnostics from 2000 miles away.

    simple things first,
    what are the symptoms?
is it okay for a while then when hot it starts to give trouble?
does it start giving troule rigth away with power on?
    is your air supply clean?
is the fan in the machine clean? no cutting slag, dust, grit, etc in the plasma cutter case?
    hoses in good shape?
    torch head put together correctly?
did you check the trouble shoot in the instruction manual? is it still under warrnaty. you could call Miller, im sure that someoen will help or at least try to help.
if you can answer some of the above, im sure someone here might come up with some form of an answer.
Will it weld? I loooove electricity!

hey thanks for the advice. i moved it around a lot today and showed it to people and i think that commotion may have dislodged dust or grit (theres a lot of grit in my work spot now) and it seems to be working a lot better today!

        im so relieved.

as for my work, here are some more examples:

That's really wonderful stuff, sarahsarah. What talent! I'm looking forward to viewing more of your work. Thanks for sharing, and please let us know how your showing turns out. I'd show up, if I lived a bit closer. ;-)

Wowwy! those fish are something else! I love that lanternfish/anglerfish. That is very cool!

Did I see a cylinder head gasket in there too??? beside the greyhounds/wippets/dogs.

nice work and im glad to hear your cutter is doing its thing again.

heres a pic of about the only thig ive ever done in metal. My artistic talents remain untapped for the most part in metal anyway...

              cheers!
better safe than sorry. give that machine of yours a good clean. blow it out etc.

Thanks. Actually its just hammered copper. I used a chisel to create the viens in the leaves and a point to create the centers of the flowers. I hammered every single piece into shape. It was something that I made for my Grandmother a few years back. She's gone now , but I still have the flowers and they never die So im am reminded of her every time I see them.

bodymans tools come in handy sometimes!!!

fantastic work sarahsarah, i am not sure how many people sculped here but the hobart sight has a section of just art projects, i am glad your plasma problem fixed itself, frustrating to have a tool not working.

Hours and hours Dusty. Soldering it all together was a challenge too. get one piece stuck and another would fall off from the heat... I finally got it all together though and it looks pretty good. This flower is at least 15 years old now i think.

                          plasma problems

hi sarah and welcome to the forum, as or your plasma cutter, i would think you probably just overheated the poor thing and it wanted a rest , i have a miller 375 extreme and a heavier esab industrial unit and they will shut down if you go over their "duty cycles". I looked at some of your work, nice stuff, when i can find some time ill send you pics of some of the art work ive done in thew past. keep up the good work, and by the way where are you from?
