  • Checking quality of weld seams.

    Hi,

I am looking for a tool or instrument that lets you check the quality of weld seams. The simplest tool I have heard uses 2 magnets and some liquid which is poured on the seam to determine the quality of the weld seam. I am looking for the name of that tool/instrument and where can I buy this? If you know any other simple tools, please help me find it.

    Thanks.

    Interesting screen name....French I hope??? J/K

Anyway, you are looking for methods of NDT or Non Destructive Testing.

There are many available, the simplest is using 2 part Dye Penetrants. Another easy (though not cheap) way that you sort of described is called Magnafluxing which uses metal powder and electromagnets to show lines of stress and cracks.
