  • silver soldering hyd. lines ...................

    we used to use silver solder to do emergency patches on hydraulic lines out in the field with limited resources. most of the time the holes were small so they were just plugged up and a saddle patch put over them. whats your opinion on this?

    Silver solder works great for emergencies

    Silver solder fills that niche quite nicely. However, remember its tensile strength is nowhere near that of a true "weld". Since you're brazing steel, you must use 45% Silphos to get the job done. Lately, I have been using these 45% sticks with a blue flux coating that smells like vanilla when it melts.

      ya .........I hear ya. thanks for the reply. what's the name of the 45% sticks your using with the blue coating? name brand, part # etc. what is the tensile strength of these blue coated sticks? can you explain a little more about silphos and why it's needed ? what is silphos ?
