A guy welded a cast iron clevis onto a hyd cylinder and it broke, again. So i fixed it right. Bored a new collar to fit the shaft end and welded it onto a piece of 2 1/2" sq tube. Bolted to the cylinder this time. Like new again...Bob

You had a good idea there Bob. That is as much fun as fixing the thing I always find & by that I mean the challenge of how to fix it. Good thinking & thanks for sharing.

      Chrome plating

Having never welded cylinders before, I have a question.

On a job like this, how do you deal with the chrome plating on the cylinder, do you just grind it off where you plan to run your bead ? Then do you weld it like any other metal being the cylinder is trued. Is a cylinder tempered ?

If i was going to weld it i would just grind off the chrome. The cyl end was dead soft, i pushed a 3/8" bit right thru with no pilot hole...Bob
