I'm looking to get certified, but am unsure as to how to get it. I was on the AWS website and it doesn't show a testing facility in WI. Anybody from WI, especially northeast WI shed some light on this subject for me? Any info would be greatly appreciated

Well, all my work is mig and tig. 95% being mig. I'm 100% self taught so forgive me if this isn't enough info for you. I don't know a whole lot about the certification process.Comment

That brings up a good point, what happens if you weld (without certification) and something goes wrong -- compared to welding something with certification (and something goes wrong.) How many of you "weld shop" guys are certified? How much certification is needed?? I know I'm not going to weld up a 4 wheel rock crawler and let someone take it for racing, but what are the limits?

I would imagine you're just as liable either way. Don't know for sure. But main reason I want to pursue it is to open up more doors careerwise. I think I'm starting to "outgrow" my job abilitywise.Comment

Lincoln offers some great courses in Cleveland Ohio. You can take a one week course or you can take the big course that lasts 15 weeks. You can get certified through them. You have to pay for hotel (special rate), but you get a certification that is nationally recognized. Check it out:

This applies only to AWS and the USA.
The AWS certification process is nothing more than a system of affidavit attesting to someone going through the process of proving making an acceptable, produced to a specific procedure.
That said nothing in AWS D1.1 sets out who can attest to someone passing a certification test.
I as the owner of my company can and do test my self signing my own certification paperwork including procedures and qualification records.
So anyone can test to AWS D1.1 and self certify.TJ______________________________________
