Thanks,
I do these to fill in slow times.
There are a bunch of different ways make a smoke/bbq. the one pictured is a rotissary unit. 36"dia x 84" with a grille on the back of the trailer.
Cost.... Material for the project ran $3985.00 complete. We fab everything from the ground up(axles and fenders were purchased).
A static style pit can be done for around $300/$500 and it will feed 50 people easy. you can make it to hook to your trailer receiver or put it on a small trailer.
Think 2 boxes - air in/air out. One box for fire the other for food.
OK I am ready to start cookin lunch... again.
As far as how to cook. KCBS ( Kansas City BBQ Association) www.kcbs.us
You will also see a bunch of smokers and pits that different companies build. I stay a member even though I haven't competed in a couple of years.
When you decide what style of pit to build and you want some suggestions, i would be happy to help you with designs and hints. I am a PM away.
Just post pics for all to see.Live Right Have Fun

A few specs on this unit.
It has 6 racks that are 84"long.
It'll cook about 30 briskets, my favorite
or 30 / 40 racks of ribs.
or
50/60 pork shoulders
or
50/60 tri-tips
So just enough for 1 weldor
or
500 office workers

Nice setup,
Your still making me hungry, as for the beer run that would be one keg (of their choice) for the cook crew and a semi load for the rest of the crew!!Steve

I agree the big red is a beauty. Here are a couple that we created, but nothing like the red 'un. First one is a creation of my SIL using a used up LPG bottle,24"x5', it has a firebox for indirect or a 10" sq. tube underneath for direct cooking, second is the pig pit as we call it, it is 26"sch 40 x5', this one has capability to cook direct for pigs, butts or chickens or indirect for briskets, there are 2 grates of SS expanded welded to 3/8" SS solid squares. The last is a more stationary pit now, 24"x5' w/2'x2'x3'x3/8" firebox w/fire brick liner, this ole boy does an outstanding job on briskets.
Good luck
L*S
BTW, the only plans we ever had was pics and going to cook offs.
