You might be surprised what a similar model new will be worth these days. I was in the market for used myself til I discovered the price drop in welders lately. You can get a mm 180 for +- $800.

A deal is a deal if it works well for a long time. New machines in that class are extremely competitively priced so it makes some sense to compare and shop new before venturing into used discontinued models. If the price is right go for it.

Millermatic 172
[FONT="Arial Black"][SIZE="5"][SIZE="4"]I purchased a welder like that new. It was GREAT i used it to fabricate up 3/8" metal. did a lot of work on utility trailers and iron fencing and gates. I also used it with the spool gun for aluminum. The only reason i got rid of it was i needed a welder that welded aluminum better. I needed more heat settings. The 172 only had four. For aluminum either it was to hot or to cold. Hope this helps.

Good welder.
If it's in good shape and taken care of it's a great light duty welder, you can get the manual here.

Need advice on used welder
I have a chance to buy a used Millermatic 172? I can not find any information on this welder on the web site. Is this an older discontinued model? I have done a little welding with my buddys big Miller welder but I want a smaller one for my garage. What kind of specs does this machine have and what should I look out for? Thanks.Tags: None
