Well picked up my pipe bender today at HF. Only $59 for a 12 ton that goes from 1/2" -2" I didn't think that was to bad and also got the little guy a auto hood so now all we need is some material and we should be ready to start.

Well Fun congrats on the new addition to the family. I hope everything went well for your wife's sister and the little one is healthy. I guess the extra chores are worth it in this case.

how do you get that lucky to have the wife out of town for 2 weeks
her lil sister had her first baby, and the wife has not seen sis or mom in.......i think 6 years ??? they all still live in AZ.
i would not call it lucky though, i got way more chores now...
i'll keep an eye out for the wheels and such.

I would have to agree with the auto dark for the youngin'. Dave

i think auto would be a better idea. as HMW said he will be able to look around and wont get caught with it up trying to see you get things started. or not paying attention.
i always put my son in my BWE and i use my old fixed shade when he is in the shop wile i weld. i'm afraid i may forget to tell him to put down his hood or he will not be listening or who knows what. even as much as i know you should not look at the light, i have trouble no doing so when other are welding around me.better to be safe and put him in an auto, even if it means you have to use the fixed shade. the lil guy will be better off in the auto i think.

Fixed shade is alot cheaper. Only good thing about auto is he can look around before you weld. One thing about the fixed shade is, no matter what its dark. Have fun

Cool pictures Dave. If ours turns out a nice as those I will even be surprised.
I will print those pictures out and show them to him and see if he gets any ideas off of them that he likes. I want to thank everyone for their help on this project. This is a whole new adventure for me as well as the little one. I also told him that he must help thru the entire project and he agreed. What do you think as far as a welding hood goes for the little guy. Auto or fixed shade?

The earlier you start them the better. He'll be using the tig before 7.......
That would be cool. I used to always leave things for my boys to do. A part that even if they messed it up I could fix it. He'll always remember this project and the time spent with grandpa

mini chopper
Sparky24, One of the new guys at another forum posted these pics last night, thought it would help you in the design process and give the youngin something cool looking to ride. Dave

Showed my grandson the plans today and he is all kinds of excited. He wanted to start on it today. He even looked at me with a big grin and said Pappy I'm going to have a chopper before you do. Go figure
