Wheels
Thanks guys. I have rigged a spindle so that I can turn the wheel and am going to cut the rim with plasma, add a rolled piece the desired width and re weld the cut off piece of the rim back to the added piece,using a pointer to insure that everything is as straight and true as possible. I'll let you know how it does..

back in the 70s i made lots of wide wheels cut them on a table saw with carborandum wheels, cutthem just in front of the spot welds so that part of the wheel center was on the back half.had rolled bands made in a shop whatever width you want. putthe back on a spindle start welding band on to wheel where the front was cut off. used a pointer tokeep it straight as possible, then welded the front piece on to the outside of the band,using a pointer to get it as true as u can.if u spun the stock wheels on the spindle before u cut them they were probably not straight. i ran wheels like this on many dirt track cars and a lot of street cars tooOriginally posted by Herb hardy View PostLeave a comment:

I have never done any wheels for a street car but have done some for our race cars. We cut our wheel on a lathe and then cut out the new section on a donor wheel to replace the bead seat on bent up race wheels. We didn't have to worry much about them being perfect as you would on a street car, but yes it can be done. The real question would be is it worth it to try on street wheels? DaveLeave a comment:

Wheels
I am interested to know if any of you guys have ever cut wheels and added a piece in them to make them wider? I'm talking about a stock Ford.Chevy or Chrysler rim. If so, how were you sure that it was true and did you have to try to balance it before the tire was installed?
