Nice work Lucky. Don't let those clowns get to you. While they're ****ing around, you're practicing. Earplugs are a must. I lost the hearing in my left ear for over a month from a spark. I had no gear on cuz "I'll just tack this for you and you can finish" and my hired hand got a quick lesson in what could happen. It took forever to heal.

When I was working on my overhead, earplugs were a must! Heard 2 stories of guys that got slag in their ears. 1 has to put ear drops in his ear for life, the other lost his hearing permanantly. I would also wear a long athletic sock (cotton of course) on my left arm under my full leather jacket. Kept the burn scars from happening! (slag didn't go through the leather, but the heat of it did; mostly in the inside crook of the elbow.

    Lucky,
hang in their Bud. . . don't mind those other guys, you can do this
I would also suggest getting a leather jacket or a leather cape & sleeves to help with that hot spatter in overhead. the leathers help me in overhead and I live by them. also wear some ear plugs when welding overhead .... keeps the hot spatter out of my ears.. keeps it from going down the ear canal. . . also Cotton clothes ,shirt un-tucked and hight top boots with paints outside of boots. no cuffs in pants leg. this all lets the spatter keep falling all the way to the floor. and not go down in your clothes to burn you. ouch!
I also wear safety glasses under my welding hood

    hope all this helps

Some more MIG pics from school.

Here are a few vertical and a few fillet overhead welds. Let me tell you, I am sick of overhead. From the burned arms to the uncomfortable position, I am just sick of it! I move on to beveled plate on Thursday, that should be a bit easier... In the pictures there are a few spots that look inconsistent, but that is just someone walking by my stall, bumping my machine... They do it all day long, I am going to get a stall somewhere else next time. Anyway, let me know what you think.
