I like the Welding Finger. What the best way to make the weight block? A solid block may be difficult to find. Make a box out of thin plate material and fill with something heavy? Thanks.

That would certainly work. You can get creative and use other shapes, too. Depending on how professional you wanted it to look, you can use a weight bench weight and weld a a big bolt or something through the middle hole to keep it on the finger, even a brick with some way to hold it on. Even without a weight, it would still work for some of the more delicate holdings.

I made two of Rocky D's welding fingers. One out of 3/8" round bar and one out of 1/2" stock. I did not put a weight on them, but I think they work fine anyway. I also made a plasma cutting grate based upon his design with the removable cutting fins. It works great, highly recommended if you have a plasma cutter.

Here's my version of a welding finger clamp thingy. I use about 20 of them on one welding jig to hold the little parts. They are simple and cheap to make from a small od sq tube. I used 3/8" sq. They slide up between two rails and have spring pressure downward. Sure beats buying 20 pairs of Vise grips...Bob

Good show, Raven...I found that the "finger" is also a good way to ground what you're welding. The weight can be anything heavy enough to put pressure on what you're holding with it. I'm glad you guys are having fun building these tools.

I do testing for Hobart and the signatures are from the design team that built the HH125. Real nice folks, over there!

Yeah, I guess you're right! From the picture ya can't tell how big it is. It's only 17" long, and 3/32" stainless wire.

My first projects

I started out very simple, and I can send you plans for each project - my first project was to use rebar to build a C25 cylinder holder for transport, I didn’t like wedging it in between boxes to keep it from rolling around in the back of my truck.

Project #2 was a small welding table that I could clamp onto my Black and Decker workmate.

Projects 3 & 4 were to build new fireplace grates – once again rebar.

Project 5 – Wood storage rack – galvanized fence posts – good for a cord.

Project 6 – was why I bought the welder – fix the rear bumper where my RV storage compartment was attached. Massive stress cracks, and the compartment was almost dragging on the ground.

Project 7 – a collapsible battery holder for my RV that mounts on the front bumper when dry camping to give overnight electricity – and stores in above storage compartment for travel.

Project 8 – Bought a TIG welder that didn’t come with a cart – designed and built the cart.

Project 9 – Modify gas cylinder transport for two cylinders, one C25 the other Argon.

Project 10 – Is in the design phase – a custom fence enclosure for my pool pump station.

Projects 1 through 7 were MIG projects, 8 through 10 are MIG/TIG.

Bottle Rack, welding fingers, welding cart

Here are pic's of a couple of my projects. The bottle rack can either lay down in my truck or be mounted to the front of the bed with the brackets shown on either side. The brackets slide between the bed and the cab and bolt to the frame using the eye bolts at the bottom of the pic. I modified Rocky D's welding fingers by adding a piece of 3/4" 90 degree angle, I stack weight as needed on the angle. My final two pic's are the welding cart I built for my Dynasty 200DX.
