OT Hawk question

Nice picture on the welding bench. Looks like you have some prime land there. Any deer in the area ? I'm thinking of putting a salt lick out back for ours. Wish we had hawks close by, I see them around here, just not close to home.

Thanks. There were 4 deer back there today. I have seen up to 10. They have 2 tree rubs that are pretty fresh. We got a couple of new dogs but so far the deer don't seem to care. I welded up part of a shade roof for one of the dogs today. I sandblasted it and have it in primer. I hope to get it installed in the next few days depending on the weather.

Nick - Let it go. It's just not worth it. I for one am enjoying your post as I have a couple of red shouldered hawks (red tails first cousin) that visit my house about once a day. We have a lot of squirrels around. Not as many as before, though. So I can relate to your joy at seeing some of nature's wonders.

To satisfy all, when I weld or work outside my shop I see them either circling overhead, perched on nearby trees, or my fence. Since I'm a lifelong nature lover, I consider it a real treat when they visit.

I will admit they are pretty Ive got one thats been trying to get into my flight pens( thats were we keep are quail for dog training.) I called the local game warden to see what I could do he told me if the bird was killing the quail I could shoot him, but I hate to shoot anything for nothing but he better go find somwhere else to eat or he gonna meet Mr. 12ga.

Sometimes in order to protect our turf we have to do things. Whenever I see a video of a whale hunting down a seal, I feel sad for the seal but the whales are doing what is proper for their survival. It's too bad we can't all survive without the demise of others.

we have at least two chicks..................They were being fed by the parents
and by the time I set up the camera it was over. I'll stay with it.

Nick - I've been around but haven't posted much. Thanks for asking. Been real busy since the Sun-N-Fun. We've had to do some major work to the loach due to one of our members poor driving habits. If you've never removed the greenhouse from an OH-6, you don't want to. We've replaced two of the rotor blades, one blade clamp, fixed the oleo struts to level the fuselage, straightened some sheet metal, repaired a bent tail boom, and repaired or replaced some of the plexi. Should be done now and returned to the museum. Now he can take it out for more show and tell. Hope he doesn't bend it again.

Another reason I've been kind of invisible is I'm pretty disappointed in how the forum is going. Seems like we have a bunch of people on here now that have no social skills. I'm too old and tired to put up with much of that. I spoke with Andy about this at the fly-in and have hopes that the sniping and rudeness will soon be put to rest. Takes all the fun out of it for me.

What is an OH-6?

It's the "Loach - Light Observation Helicopter" that was in the pictures I posted on the Sun-N-Fun thread. It looks like a Hughes 500. They were used as observation, command, and bait during the Vietnam war. Many times they were half of a "pink team". The other half was a cobra. The loach would fly low trying to draw enemy fire and when it did, the cobra moved in and cleaned up.

Great video there Nick. Loved how the chick looked at Dad after he dropped the mouse in the nest as if to say, ok, what do I do with it, wasnt long till you didnt see him, must have been busy eating.
