  • Question About Jackson Hood - HSL100 NAT WELDERS

I have a Jackson Hood that I bought about two months ago and I absolutely LOVE it! It's the first non-AD hood I've ever bought (1 Miller/2 Hobarts) and I wouldn't go back to either of those other hoods for anything...I like the extended coverage on my neck, the lighter weight overall...and I also like the kewl little "National Welders" logo on top of the hood (sorry, I know that's cheesy).

My question is this: does Jackson make an AD insert that they sell seperately that will drop in and fit my hood? I ran into a situation last week where I was on my back on a concrete pad under a pontoon boat TIG'ing teeny tiny puncture holes closed in the bottom of the pontoon's sponsons....the AD feature would've been nice in that particular application. One of the great things about my hood is the super-large field-of-view and I don't want to lose that, even if it means I can't use an AD lens...

My hood is an HSL100 (NAT WELDERS).
    Product ID Old is: 07449819
    Product ID New is: 3002614

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: I tried looking at Jackson's website but it wasn't very helpful in terms of telling me what would fit what and my LWS rep didn't know either.

Actually, since I'd just gone out and looked up the model number (HSL100), I was looking at Jackson Safety's website again and things made a little more sense. I didn't see any prices, though. Any suggestions?

Unless I am very much mistaken all, or at least most of, the Jackson A/D 4X5 cartriges will fit that hood and the newer Halo-X hood. There are normally several of the different types for sale on ebay without the hoods, depends of the features you want, and what you want to pay.

Well, I've found some, but they're just as- or more expensive than- buying a brand new hood. Guess I won't be doing that after all, huh?

Thanks, George. You got a recommendation for somewhere less expensive than AirGas or WeldingDepot or CyberWeld?

If you're trying to keep the 4x5 viewing window, then autoshade is going to cut that way down. Here's the 3 Jackson 4x5 autoshade cartridges for the HSL-100:

            Nexgen (Part No: 0744-0705): 2-3/8” x 3-3/4”
            MASTER VARIABLE HTLS (Part No: 0744-0660): 1-3/4” x 3-3/4”
            PROFESSIONAL SHADE 10 (Part No: 0744-0761): 1-3/4” x 3-3/4”

Normally WeldingDepot sems to be the cheapest, I normally use www.weldingsupply.com for most everything I don't get at my local LWS.
