Looking at the new Corel Draw X3 suite, teachers/student edition. It's only $129.99 compared to the "full version" at $400. I heard the teach/student
version is full also, but what are they missing? I mean comon, price is so different, I figure they gotta be lacking something??!!!

dont know the particulars with corel, but, the way the education version works with microsoft is it is the full version, no upgrade path.

the idea is to get it into the hands of students so when they enter the workforce they will get a job using the product instead of a competitors .

all the large mfg's have programs, they figure it is better to discount than to have the kids figuring out how to break the copy right...

I took a class at a local community college to get the discount on software once, double win, learned the program, got it cheep, and legal.

The difference is absolutely nothing in functionality, however, there are limitations about the educational version.

1) Has to be purchased through an educational re-seller, usually a university bookstore or the like. Usually a university identification card is required I am not sure about high school and the like.

2) Has no reference material other than what is in help that is included on the cd's.

As far as I know that is the only thing that changes from edu to full versions

That said...if you have some other programs the will sell what is called a "competitive upgrade" which is a full version at a significantly reduced price. There is a list online and if you call others are available.

Hope this helps and if you have any question just ask. I will say I have been looking at the x3 version and the difference between it and my old one is amazing of course they are several generations removed.

I have no where come close to using the full capabilities of what it can do and have done some really fun things with it.

I do mostly for fun also, but a little is for business as well. Here is one that I did for Christmas presents.



These were put into wood cases for presents for Brother-in-laws and Father-in-laws.
