My wife got her masters in Social Work. I tell her all these "professionals":
Higher their degree is, the more common sense they lose...
    I'm not late...

As others have said, good to read through this just to know I'm not alone...

My grandfather used to say "He's so educated he's lost all his common sense..." Ain't that the truth!

My Grandfather lived from 1888 to 1963,
and his term like that was saying someone was, 'An educated fool'.

Ha! That's funny. The one I've heard is "more degrees than a thermometer but he can't find the men's room door." Same concept.

                  My Favorite one was....

"Can you fix this (cast IRON) tie rod off my old tractor?"
                  Me "why yes I can"
                  "how long will it take?"
ME "about an hour and a half"
                  "why so long"
ME "cause these things take time"
"cant you just weld it up?"
                  ME "sure I can"

                  The Next week:

                  "your **** weld broke"
                  ME "thats unfortunate"
                  "well, fix it"
                  ME "that'll be $65"
"what?!?!?!?!?!!!! its your shi**Y work, I shouldn't pay again"
ME "If you want it fixed right you will"
" I paid you to fix it already"
ME "and you got what you paid for didn't you?"
ME "to answer your question from last week, yes I can "just weld it up",
                  will it work, NO"
                  "why $65?"
ME "cause I have to burn $15 worth of stuff just to heat it up to the condition that it becomes weldable, then I have to setup everything to weld it , which includes grinding, and cleaning an old rusty part"
                  Ok

                  An hour or so later............

"Its fixed, and that'll be 65 bucks"
                  "bullsh**"
"hey , maybe I need to cool this thing off with some ice water"
                  "why would you do that?"

                  I made $70 bucks that day.........turns out that I didn't have change.

I have that happen alot. Especially when I go to do dumpster repairs for my best client(best because he does pay, and gives me alotta work) but he is always always complaining agout how long it takes. Then I have to tell him that, these are cheap, old rotted out 10ga doghouses, that when I cut them out, I have to keep cutting until I find good metal. He just doesnt understand, "oh just weld it he goes" And I say, I'm gonna do it right, or not at all. Then he goes ok... I'll never understand.

That's the beauty if this forum IMO

The other day I had a lady tell me all she needed was a small weld and it would only take a couple of minutes...I blew her off and went back to work.
I don't even mess with idiots like that anymore cause I know they'll just keep looking untill they find somebody as dumb as they are. And I'll still get to fix it later. It's happened several times now

Heck I just barely can make myself happy doing everything I know...why would I want to increase my worrying/stess level any worse???
Anymore anything I fix gets beefed.
And if they want me to MAKE something fast I make sure I NEVER work for those fools.
I never will understand WHY people want to minimize the welding process.
I even get people that tell me "I could do this myself I just don't have a tig welder" ....I just say "oh ok" and just keep on giving them their welding lesson!
