Stillboostin, the AR/He was because I had some and was trying to get rid of it, it probably added a little more heat and allowed me to run the Dynasty at lower amps so I did not have to worry about duty cycle, the material was 1/4 inch so no sugaring happened. there is a product called SolarFlux which you paint on the back and this stops the O2 from affecting the weld area. Works pretty good and is easier than back gassing. Hope this helps,PaulMore Spark Today Pleasesigpic

huh, I didnt know you could mix it with vodka!, ****, this advice will definately make for a better welding experience huh. Ive been mixing mine with that product called "HEET" used to get rid of water in gas tanks. I wish I would of known about the vodka, because I do have a bottle of it laying around the house. Thanks for the tip.If you want peace, be prepared for war!

Thanks for the compliment, but I just try to post pics of the good welds and hope that nobody catches on to me.
Some days are better than others, but DO NOT sell your Passport. That little machine kicks some butt and you just need to spend some time working it all out. I find that I lay my nicest beads with Patience and Prep.
Also, you have to understand your machine and how to set it up properly. This just comes with experience, trial, and error. My welding has improved a lot over the last several years, and I'll attribute a good amount of that to a few key members of this forum who have shared their knowledge along with pictures of their work.
Keep the Passport... and get a GTAW machine. One does not effectively replace the other. Work out the MIG then move on to the TIG. Believe me, scrapping the MIG in place of TIG is not going to alleviate your frustrations.
Good luck and have fun... and thanks again.
Oh yeah, post some pics of your stuff. I'm sure everyone here would be happy to give you their $ .02.Maxstar 200DX

Thanks The top three are all mild, the bottom one was from some junk fixtures, so they are some type of tool steel.

After reading through this thread I don't know if I should even post mine. Some mighty fine weldin' in here.
Even though these are MS TIG welds they may more resemble MIG welds. I learned on a MIG & some stick many years ago, and just recently using TIG. I have a habit of pouring the filler to the weld. I can't seem to get the hang of the "Stacked Dime Look".
