    For solid SS wire use tri-mix (90% Helium/7.5% Argon/2.5% CO2)
    for SS flux core I prefer to use 75% Argon/25% CO2 over straight CO2

    I would only use 98% Argon/2% Oxygen for spray or pulse spray transfer.

I just can't stand all of the terrible grammar I'm seeing on all of the welding message boards these days either! I really wish people would pay attention to what they're saying and how they're saying it!

    Okay...it's 1:38am and I'll end my rant. Good info on the link, MAC...thank you for sharing it.

    I've been reading the site you referenced above, and good grief, how in the world is someone supposed to know all these things? Quite intimidating to a newcomer to welding, that's for sure...

    I use tri-mix with short arc, 98/2 for pulse and iirc also for the flux core. Im sure there is more than one way to skin a cat.

    When I've had to weld SS using GMAW, I've used Blue Shield 9 shielding gas. I know this doesn't mean anything to most welding forum users out there due to it being a product name, but that is the mix offered by Air Liquide here in Canada. I can't remember the mix ratios, but it is a tri mix if I stand correct. Blue Shield 9 is used for short curcuit and globular transfer modes. I don't know of the proper gas to use with FCAW SS welding. For spray transfer, a different mix is used other than the Blue Shield 9.

    It's not that I dont know it's I'm second guessing myself when my welding supplier stopped by today.

    I thought it was C02 for the flux core and 95%argon 5%helium for the solid wire.
