MM210 Questions

1. The angled drive system in my mind should work better for feeding just do to the way the gun connects to the machine similar to the 350. maybe why they went with the longer gun???

I never had any drive problems, nor have a heard of any with the old drive, for me this is a non-issue either way.

2. It comes with a 15' m-25 gun rather than 12'.

Only an issue is you need a 15' gun, sometimes too long gets in the way, just depends on how large you shop is I guess, I like 10'-12' guns.

3. 10' power cord, i think the 210 was only 7'???

Don't remember how long mine was, not an issue for me.

4. over temp light

Never exceeded the duty cycle, but ok to have I guess.

5. Active Arc Stablizer for better starts

As Danny stated, never saw any issues with the MM210 here either.

6. EZ change low cyc rack....seems very low to the floor

Good if you have heavy tanks, not so good if you have ruff ground to roll over.

7. the wire feed speed is 50-700 ipm where the 210 was 35-700.

8. Dimensions 30h x 19w x 40d (less cubic inches than the 210)

Not a car motor so no issue here.

9. this might be a big one...i would get 23 lbs LESS of something, it weighs 177 lbs where the 210 weighed 200 lbs. (it mentions the gun weight is not included) also the over all displacment of the unit is less when you check the dimensions above.

Miller would not remove something that needed to stay I think.

10. no gun/cable hanger on the side of machine....people use the front split handle or you can get a elevated gun/cable rack to mount on the side.

Don't like this feature, I prefered the MM210 side gun/cable holders.

11. access compartment / set up chart on front of machine. (looks cheap)

Liked the bigger set-up chart better even though you needed to lift the door to see it.

12. one latch on the side door as opposed to 2 on the 210.

Non-issue here I think.

I spoke with one of the Miller reps and he says i should go with the newer model, kinda like buying a car. He says it is not less of a machine and that the changes are the result of improvments. He did not have an answer for the 23 lbs less weight though. I spoke with several people at Miller, and I must say that they were all a pleasure to deal with. My only hesitation is the fact that sometimes they put out a new model car that turns out to be a lemon. Although alot of the things above could be great improvments??? Please pass on any thoughts or comments. Thanks again for all your help.

I have no reason to think that the MM212 will be any less capable or robust than the MM210 was. It's just a bit different in some minor features. These are my opinions only and should be taken as such, milage may/will vary for others. For my money the MM210 was/is the best value in it's class and I suspect that the new MM212 will be as good. 5. Active Arc Stablizer for better starts

This is a MM 251/252 feature, that gives it the real soft arc that they have.

The Run-in feature on the 251/252 helps in the area of arc starts.

I 've had a MM 210 for over 5 years, and arc starts are definitely an area were the unit doesn't have a problem.

210 VS121 is not realy any thing to loose any sleep over thats for shore. the new 212 will be just as nice a unit as the 210 and you will likely never miss the changes haveing never used the 210.getting a 210 off the floor at a discount to make room for the 212 is a nice insentive to go 210 but not a reson to stay clear of the 212 should the 210 not be available. eather one will give you many years of relyable servise. stop aganizing over it and goi get whats available so you can start playing insted of worrying.

I recently picked up the 210. One of the tipping points for me was the 210 was generator friendly. from talking to the miller folks, the 212 will be generator power freindly also. for me, the local guys had one, matched internet prices, and the 210 did everything I wanted it to do.

Was between the 251 and the 210 for me.

the weight, wouldn't venture a guess, cause that is all it would be from me.

I like the 210.

when I did the inspection and set up on the machine I found one drive roller had a nick in it, someone had dropped it. it would have been a real pistal with deforming the wire had I not caught it on set up before I ran it, the place I picked it up from swapped it out without question.

In todays competative market, in my estimation, it is unlikely miller would put out a bad unit. if he thing crashes on you, it has a solid warranty, and they will fix it.

Don't think you can go wrong with either the 210 or the 212 given millers track record on support.

fyi, read recently where some funding was made available for them to expand locally. That is always a good thing.

Hi Guys, bad news is the floor model 210 is gone. They can still get one if I order now. I am having second thoughts on the 210 and thinking maybe wait for the 212???? I have been doing some more research and here is what else I have found out on the MM212, maybe I could get some opinions on what is important and what is not and any other thoughts or ideas.

Thanks everyone for all the info and ideas. The more research I do the more it looks like it will be the MM210. As for the helmet, I think I will go check some of them out at my LWS, I still believe the auto dark is the way to go, in my mind it will be less of a chance of receiving a flash. I do not plan on going cheap, only one set of eyes and cant get replacement parts for them! I may have some more questions on these yet. Thanks for the pics of the 212, I like the look of the 210 better. I will give some more thought to the bottle situation, I have to get firm pricing on this and may have more questions. I am going into my LWS on Monday morning to check all this out and mention the 212 and see if they can sharpen their pencil on the 210. Thanks again everyone, for all your help and opinions. Feel free to add anything else you come up with I will be watching.

Just so you have a place to start, my LWS last offer to me for his last MM210 was $1268+tax, of course I have bought a few machines from him so maybe thats why he is being so good to me .

you have the best info you can get on the auto hood thing taken care of already when you say you will not go cheap. after that its all about personal preferance and options on the top hoods. i know one of then goes down to a shade or 2 lower than the BWE i think its shade 6 or 8 witch could be usefull in low amps but i have as of yet not had a problem with mind, just add light if needed i guess.

you are not alown in just prefering the old stedy solid shield. some will never trust them no matter what and some just like what they are used to and dont see the need to change, some just refuse to pay that kind of $$. all good reasons to keep a solid shield if they suit you.

Not to sound insensitive, but I think I'll just completely dismiss this statement without SOME sort of supporting argument.

In reality, autodarkening helmets are inherently safer. At least that's what my uncle's buddy's wife's cousin said.

Maybe I should get one for my mother-in-law then when she went blind she couldn't find my house anymore woopie

yeh i know it was bad a statement but like what i said with it its ur own joice. i would think they would be fine since thats mostly all u can find these days. i agree somebody should hit up mythbusters. im gonna think about that see if they have a submision form for ideas because i would like to know.

auto shade lens

When they first came out with the auto shade lens many, many years ago, I tried them for a while and had many problems with them. The photo cells in them would crack and would start working intermittently. I am sure over the years the have gotten much better and much safer, but call me a creature of habit, I still use my trusty old Jackson hood with #12 filter plate. Dave
