I really don't see a reason for the post count and a member rating such as Junior/Senior. The post and or rating in no way reflects the skill, ability, or knowledge of the poster. One would assume someone with a high post count
or Senior status would certainly be the one to guide you with proper info.
Also members seem to be judged or respected by these numbers. A new member that has been welding as a pro for 30 years makes his/her first post and automatically has a low rating...Junior and 1 post. "What the he!! do they know"? I realize all one generally has to do is read their post and you pretty well know where they stand, but not always. People that must have their post count...........it could be in their personal data somewhere.

I'm new to this board, but I've been on a lot of other boards and before that, on usenet. Post count is is worthless. I really wish boards didn't keep it.

If you ever question that light travels faster than sound, just take a minute to observe how some people appear bright until you hear them speak. post count is the same way. 1 million posts doesn't make you any smarter.

I pay no attention to it either way. I don't care if it stays or goes! Why do they even have it?? Is it needed for some reason?? Or just so you know how many posts you've made?

Not sure just what it represents, but If you have been around here long enough you do get an idea of who is full of beans, who is a good o'boy and who the misfits are. I belong to a private aircrft owners board and the only credentials they use is how long you have been a member and how many posts you have made. This is kind of nice because you know how long someone has been there without getting the boot. Hence if someone has been there a long time with lots of posts, you can probably bank on the fact he/she is reputable.

member status, not member skill

member status is just that. post counts show how much you contribute. be it good or bad, it reflects your participation in this forum, not your skill level.
i do ok at welding but am still a hobby guy even with a large post count.

I agree with the original poster that a post count really doesn't help. Most of us are sophisticated enough to determine good information from bad wihout looking at someone's post count. If they got rid of it tomorrow, it would be OK with me.
