Post the same question on "weld Talk" at www.hobartwelders.com as a few over there have that machine. I would help but only have the MM140 Auto Set.

Very nice unit, easy to dial in now that they don't have the "wire speed tracking" feature. Very nice arc quality, seems to like .030 wire the best. I havn't tried any fluxcore in it so I can't tell you how it runs that. The Auto Set function works very well on both .024 and .030 wire, and even in Auto Set there is a range you can use to do a bit of tuning. Add all that to Miller service and quality and you have a nice machine. I wouldn't pass up a test drive of the Hobart Handler 140 either, if you like tapped machines it's a few hundred cheaper and a very nice 120V machine.

I have one in my farm/home/hobbiest shop and am very pleased with it. So far, it's all been .030 solid wire/C25 gas without wire speed tracking and nothing thicker that 1/8". It's laying beads that I'm almost not ashamed for someone to see. And for me, that's saying something!

As of now, I can't comment on its performance with flux core, but I have a spool of .035 that I'll be using in the next few days.

The machine is capable of doing much more than I have the skill to tackle.

I used it with .030 and C-25. Nice machine and seem to wet-out nice with a pretty crisp arc. The wire was the small roll Miller sent with the machine, (HB-28) so with different wire it will weld different. Based on what I saw from that little test drive, Miller has a keeper. I liked it a lot. Big step up from the MM-175 and might be the best in class? (Big fat sweet spot) The Lincoln 180c ran that same wire like crap. Good machine also.

The MM 180 does have a real nice crisp arc, pretty good weld puddle wetout , and fairly light spatter with an .030 radnor or HB-28 wire and C-25, especially on 1/8". I really liked this unit alot on 1/8" set up this way. Definitely a nice solid wire unit. Much nicer then the MM 175 that it replaced, especially in the areas of arc starts, and window of operation on the wire speed dial.

I didn't run a lot of fluxcore on the MM 180 when I field tested it. The little I did run, I felt it was a good unit. Personally though, with fluxcore I liked the HH 187 better- same wire.
