Yeah, the talked about that at www.nascar.com, too. NASCAR was not very happy with NBC. They made an excellent point, too, that these organizations have a responsibility to REPORT the news. But they've learned there's more money in CREATING the news.

I remember when I was a kid that we were taught in school how nobel a profession journalism was. How it takes a very special person to remain unbiased and simply report news without personal opinions. But by the time I actually started watching the news, I wondered what happened...

A classic example for me is the nuclear waste repository that is planned for Nevada. The local media has turned everybody against it, of course. And that's just plain NOT THEIR JOB.

I gave up on local news a long time ago. Sure, someone was murdered at 7-Eleven last night. You're only telling me because you were the only news station that had a camera van only a block away. You didn't care a bit all those other times. Give me 5-day weather forecast and go back to cartoons for all I care, it's the same thing.

I read an article in an old issue of the Weekly Standard about a news channel, CNBC, taking a group of Arab looking people in Arab dress to the NASCAR race at Martinsville. They had a camera ready to film the violence they expected the fans to bestow upon the bait. Funny thing happened, nobody bothered the Arabs at all!. I guess the left wing media had the wrong stereotype of the typical NASCAR fan. Someone wrote in and suggested they dress them up in Jeff Gorden t-shirts and hats and then they would have something to film when the Earnhardt Jr. fans saw them.

    Motorsports?

    Sooooooooooooooooooooooo...

How about Jeff Gordon and Matt Kenseth??

You know, I've always liked Gordon and I watched the replay and I can't really fault him. While I doubt he truly wrecked Kenseth on purpose, he also probably didn't feel too bad about it after Bristol. I'm sure Kenseth feels the same about what happened then (even though Jeff started it there, too...)

We are talking about CHAMPIONS here, not just average (or even winning) drivers.

    So anyway, here's to motorsports!

With the current Chase format, Matt really started the day 5 points down and ended the day 5 points down.

PS, I liked having the pictures of some of your sponsored cars on the top of the page (including Gordon's and Kenseth's)!

    Mike,
It's good that I don't ask welding questions about my race truck. It means that I haven't wrecked it.

ZM, this is a nice place to be and I will always be a gearhead. With as much junk in my shop I cannot but be one.
Don't let one apple spoil the whole bunch. As for the thread that went wrong go check out the last entry and see the answer in my opinion.
Now as for opinions - everyone has got them and as stated earlier, some I take, some I ignore. please do the same, I for one will be glade if you show us your stuff, better than reading a motorhead magazine and I look like I am working.
In the next month I plan on pulling the old 85 FXR from under the blanket and upgrading Her. Got plans on pumping her up to 96ci(kit on shelf from a another project) Reworking the rear with intergrated fender muonted turn signals which will require some fab work and fresh paint.
I will be posting this one up for all to see, Just got to find time to start.
Also in the startup phase of the daily driver being modified, but that mostly is nuts and bolts. so not much to see.

As for this site, I will be here after the smoke clears, oh that is just me burning some low hydrogen with out the exhaust fan on. LOL

    Hey I'm a motor head!!!!

Sometimes necessity is the mother of invention.

Motorsports has driven me to learn many skills that I never dreamed I would endeavor, including welding.

Part of becoming a true do-it-yourself motorsports enthusiast, means you have to become an idiot savant, you become familiar with sciences and black-arts in all different types of systems and applications.

Based on your applicatation that is, whatever you need to learn to make your system work, make it better, faster, more efficient, stronger, safer!

If your working on a Model - T or a fuel injected Wankel, there is always alot to learn.

As a result you find yourself becoming a student of many disciplines, including the science of welding. So the focus on these forums, is not necessarily the results, or the big picture, more so the details, the science of honing skills and proper methods.

Many experience guys sharing their insight, that's what makes these forums great.

Make no mistake, welding is a big part of motorsports, and this forum is about welding!

What do you call that? the "transitive property"?

    Mike,
Don't get discouraged. What you are seeing is the textbook evolution of a public internet message board. The knowledge and tech is still here, but it becomes a bit buried when clowns surfing the internet find this board and begin to mouth off. I think as a community we feel it is necessary to point out these inconsistencies so bad information isn't spread. I know it sucks, but it's how it is. Most people who find this board read a little, see how it operates, and then join in without a hitch. Sometimes others just can't show up that way.

We are a welding, motorsports, fab community who also know each other a little and like to get off topic now and then. The good stuff will always be here, but so will the disagreements. Personally, I think that's good when the disagreements result in two sides giving factual and reasonable arguments. It helps everyone else learn. Bickering is the bad part, but like I said, it is a public message board.

Just so everyone knows there is a great feature of this board under the User CP option. It is the ignore list and it works wonderfully. =]

Everything will be fine. If a thread gets out of hand, just stop reading it or go ignore happy. As the board continues to grow there will be more and bigger bumps. Let's all soak it up in stride and enjoy the ride!

Is this a motorsports forum or not?

First of all before I get started I would like to appologize. I know I am the newest member of this forum and I probably don't have any right to criticize. In the last 48 hours that I have been a member I have noticed more bikkering and arguing than I have in the last year and a half I have been reading this forum. I have never joined a forum before and being a true gearhead who eats, sleeps and drinks all things mechanical I wanted to join a forum where I could relate to other members on an inteligent and professional level. I truly enjoy reading about different projects that other members are working on and especially enjoy and look forward to seeing pics of their projects. I value the pics so much that even though I am not a technogeek I have decided to purchase a digital camera so I can post pics of my projects and have them critiqued by the best of the best on this site and hopefully become even better at what I do than I am now. I thought that was the purpose of sharing knowledge. I have a sign hanging above my toolbox that states "knowldedge itself is of no value, it is the use of that knowledge that makes it valuable". We can sit here and argue back and forth about how smart we all are or we can occupy the space showing pictures and asking and answering questions. Again I appologize for going on but I think we are getting way off target.
Working...
