Well, I got one. I decided on the 80 Gal Eaton verticle compressor (and 50ft hose with self-winding dispensor). I haven't figured out how I am going to get it im place yet. It is going to be pretty heavy, I guess I will have to make some STRONG friends, and fast.

The first thing I need for it is a nail gun, then I can look for a sprayer and sanders and die grinders (90 deg. and straight).

How much beer would it take to get you out to Cali?

They are not that heavy, 2 men should be able to tip one from the back of a pickup truck easily. No heavier than a fridge.

go to u-hall and rent a big dolly, it should be on a small wooden skid, leave that on and it will make the move easyer, just keep in mind its top heavy. my back is shot and i couldnt do much but would be happy to help if i was'nt a 4 days drive away. but with a good dolly and it straped to the dolly properly you should be able to do it with 2 people no problem.

Just a quick comment on your choice of Eaton compressors. I got back yesterday afternoon from a marathon 36 hour, 1650 mile round tripper this weekend, with a rented 24' straight truck. I have bought a few (mostly heavy, like steel I-beams) things over the last month or so, and decided it would be significantly cheaper to rent the HD truck and pay for the diesel than to have it all shipped, and was up for the road trip. (MN-WI-Northern IL-IN-OH-IN-Central IL-WI-MN Whew!)

One of the things I bought was an Eaton compressor head and, at the last minute, a 120 gallon vertical tank. It's a long story, but to keep it short, there was some miscommunication on the timing of the pickup, so I was about to have to leave for my next pickup, when he & his wife drove in. Ended up getting the compressor and tank, we put it on pallets, and got it loaded. _That_ was interesting in the 90+ degree heat, in the back of a breeze-free truck... I probably lost 5 pounds back there. Whew!

We probably spent a good hour and a half getting it all together, and had some time to talk with him. He has a very nice operation, (if you read the thread about my new workshop (which I'm *still* building, and I'm pretty proud of it), but I would trade mine for his in a Minute, even without any inventory, I just get the tools )and he is a VERY stand up individual. Has a lot of stock, and will def go the extra mile. One small example-I purchased my things using Paypal, and didn't bring my checkbook. Seeing that he had basically everything you'd need to make a compressor (DUH!) I asked about getting some of the more hard to find things to finish being able to assemble it.

I had purchased the pump and a bare tank, and it was just primered. There were no mounting brackets attached to the mounting platform for either the pump or motor, and I was looking at it, going hmmm..., what am I going to do? I asked him if I could buy the pieces from him that I would need to finish assembling it, and he created the motor brackets 3/8" angle iron with holes drilled thru it and bolts tacked thru it. He also sold me the check valve, motor pulley and the sliding mount for the motor. I will have to weld that on once I get it into place, (and get a welder, first, I suppose... ) but at least now I have all the pieces to "roll my own".

Seeing as I didn't have the checkbook, I asked him if I could send him a paypal for the total, and he said sure, he trusted me. That made me feel pretty dang good, as he didn't know me from Adam, other than having just bought a tank and compressor head from him. I would Heartily recommend this brand, we talked a bit on their construction, as well as his other line, the rotorary screw compressors. Those things, other than unfortunately being somewhat more expensive than a piston style pump, are pretty amazing. He said that they are quieter than even his piston pumps, and I heard the same model I bought running, I was Quite Impressed.

I have a 30 gallon 6.5 HP oil less Craftsman compressor currently, and MAN is that thing noisy. You can hear it running a block away when it is out running in the driveway, no kidding. Compared to that, this new one is Nothing. One reason he said was because the RPMs it ran it, that one is I believe he said 600 or 650, and mine will be pulleyed for 800. I can't wait to get my shop finished and a welder to use so I can whip this thing together.

I would recommend Matt and Eaton to anyone who asked me. Very Good honest gentleman, and I found it refreshing to deal with him. You made a good choice, TheRealSpinner

I am in total agreement with ALHA. I too have an Eaton and 120 horizontal tank. Matt is a good guy, does what he says he will do. He is most helpful. I spent quite a bit of time with Matt in 2002 when I bought my Eaton. Its a great compressor, it would blow ballast in a Nuke Sub.

I am really looking forward to recieving my new air compressor, but I am a bit scared that it won't be for a while. I sent an email to Matt about 3 weeks ago asking about when I would receive it if I ordered it then. He returned the email promptly stating that I would receive it somewhere around now. I ordered it and even got a confirmation page, but I haven't gotten it yet. I don't know if my Dad's credit card was charged when I ordered it, or if Matt will wait until delivery to charge it, but the part that scares is that now I can't seem to reach him through email. I don't know if it is in the works or what, but I am trying to be patient, I know it will happen, Eaton seems to be an upstanding company from what you all say.

No need to hang there worrying about it, just give him a call. I 've called him a few times before I went down there, he was usually around, and always took my call when he was. He is Matt Cain, Owner, Eaton Compressor 937-456-1752. If he said he was going to ship it so you would get it around now, I can only imagine he would have, but contact him directly to get a confirmation, as well as a tracking number with the shipping company, so you can also track it with them, and know when the delivery is scheduled.

When your Eaton arrives, think HEAVY. I have a 7.5 hp with a 120 gallon horz tank. The weight was just about 1000 pounds. The 7.5 hp motor has a plate on it listing the weight of just the motor at 187 pounds.

I just got an email saying that they had a family emergency (I hope everything is alright) and that it should have been shipped out today (if the credit card number I had given them was the right one). I can't wait. I already started buying tools for it.

As much as I am looking forward to receiving it, I am not looking forward to moving it. I don't realy even have a spot for it right now, but I will work on that later (while it is in transport, I guess). I am planning on eventually having it stationed outside my shop, but until the new building is built, I am going to have to situate it in my overcrowded shop/garage. I will make it work, somehow...
