  • Table done, at last

Finally got the basic table done. For those who care about such things the top is 30" x 40" X 1/2", the base is 2"x 1/4" sq tubing, the legs & shelf bracing is 2" X 2" X 3/16" angle, the shelf is #9 3/4" flat, & the casters are HF 330# cast centers. The basic table is simple, nothing fancy although I plan on adding a fold down cutting grid, vice, and other stuff at some point.

          George,

That's a great table! Those casters should make it easy to roll around where you need it.

          As Always - great work!

Yeah, I like cheap if it works, they were $2.99 each at Harbour Freight on sale .. no SS all mild steel.

Thanks, with the pins screwed down the legs point in all four directions and it is fairly soild. The thing weighs in at about 275-300 and rolls around with no problem.

Fantastic job George! Looks like you will be a happy camper for a while with that table. My top is still sitting on sawhorses. I have all the parts cut but I won't be getting around to any welding on it for a few weeks. I have a similar design with 6" casters but my top is 4' X 4' square. Are you going to coat the frame? Did you weld the top down to the frame?

                Again, really nice work.

I had the parts cut and ready to put togeather for months it seems, always something else in the way to get done. I think I will just wipe it down with WD-40 once a month (maybe the frame and bottom will get some wax instead of the WD), that way I won't need to be worried about getting the paint all scraped up. I did weld the top on using some angle that I welded to the bottom of the top on the ends and them to the frame, I needed to do that because the top had a 3/8" bow that I needed to take out. I would have rather made some locators and just placed the top on the frame but this way it's dead flat across any plane. I am very happy with the way it turned out and look forward to doing some mod's on it as soon as I get the roller working as I need to do an arch for a gate, then build a cart for the tig and cooler. Oh yeah, the top is 36-1/2" from the floor, just perfect for standing up, looks like I need to modify a roller stool for sitting down though.
                    Regards, George

Killer table George! Makes me lust for one of my own (like I needed any help there ).

I need to find a good chair to modify with some large cushioned wheels for shop use. Anyone recommend a chair for welding that holds up to the harsh conditions well?

I did the same thing ..went to Harbor Freight to pick up some castors when they were on sale. They work great on my tire carrier for my race tires.

I should have purchased 8 of them as I need 4 more to do my tig cart
