idea: how to set up a mobile welding station for repairs on construction sites, mines, ports and external workplaces?

Excuse me if I ask the question, in your prestigious forum together with a colleague of mine we have seen that mobile workstations have been created for workshops set up on trucks, vans, trailers and off-road work decks. we were wondering how a mobile welding station should be set up to work in extreme working conditions, such as industrial plants, mines, ports, quarries, construction sites, we saw that some heavy trucks were equipped with cranes, hoists and perhaps small lathes or saws and miter saws for sectioning and segment the pipes, the plates and the profiled bars, how would you do it. thank you, we await your suggestions.

First you need to figure out the type of work you will be going after. It is very difficult to have every tool for every situation and a supply of material to carry with you. Heavy equipment repairs you will need a truck with a crane usually as well as a full set of mechanics tools and large welding equipment, Boat repairs? Mainly set up for aluminum and stainless. Know your work and build from there.

the idea is far-fetched a body shop friend of mine is attending a professional welder course he would like to reinvent himself and create more than a repair shop a multi-process wire welding center if the quarry is deepening the electrode and the tig must also improve the torch, if things go well he would also like to do welding on the road, the thing must catch on he is informing himself, the garage owns it he must reconvert it to a welding center, he is looking around to see how the wind is going to put the sail the times are a uncertain the crisis is intense, he is considering getting a professional tig and a three-phase electrode of at least 300 amps and setting up the welding station, but he walks with lead feet so as not to make any missteps, he would like to specialize in aluminum and stainless steel .

Tig aluminum and stainless are difficult to do outside. Because you need shielding gas any wind is not your friend. You can get large tarps to block off the area but that is time consuming and can still give you poor results. He needs to talk to many potential customers before spending money.

in fact he is carrying out a survey of the local job offer market to understand potential customers, however he still wants to create a welding center a station in a corner of the body shop to diversify customer service, do you think it is wrong maybe buy a used but multi-process welding machine brand like miller it's all work in progress I'll let you know, maybe for the jobs outside he takes a diesel generator welder motorcycle with trolley, with bottle rack and a portable miter saw. now let's see how he wants to set up the activity. At the moment he is training at a professional welding center.

I put a entire machine shop for field repair in a 40' refrigeration trailer one time.

It did work out OK and was my workshop for 8+ years.
If I had to do it again, I think I would use insulated conx boxes.
Have one truck that could hook to the module you wanted/needed for transport to the area you wanted with a knuckle boom behind the cab of the truck.

I would recommend different boxes for different types as in one for welding, one for machining.
May even go as far as to use one 'box' for MIG/TIG, one for materials, one for tooling and so forth.

There is a cat on youtube that has a really nice set up I think? in Sweden?
He services heavy mining equipment. Huge loader buckets ect.
The crane comes in super handy for him a lot.

Good luck with it and hit me up if he needs any more info however, the other comments in this thread are very accurate and useful as well

could you post some photos please, I would like to use a classic 300 ampere welder, a tig, a miter saw or band saw and a large drill press, I also have a 1.50 meter parallel lathe at hand, it's not much to begin with , what do you think?

I think the mig mag welding machine is superfluous for the moment, if you have to make carpentry it's fine, but on construction sites I think an electrode smaw is more suitable, I don't know if I should take a torch or a portable plasma cutter, I'm undecided, what do you think? '?

I like that little trailer in post 5. Compact, low, stuff at the rear.

All the work tools are on drivers side along with controls. Other side has stock and air comp. Click image for larger version

if one would like to build a temporary workshop on a container or shelter, how should it be set up
type in the countryside or on a construction site, the equipment and machinery sheltered in the container shelter and externally a garage in which to park the vehicles to be repaired, like a pit stop a maintenance station, how would you do it?

I like the second to last pic above of two containers with the crane on top except remove the crane and install a roof. This can be a simple flat roof sloped from front to back. This would give you an area to work under cover while being able to store your equipment and be able to lock it up. Of course electric would be nice for lights but you could run a small genset for lights and outlets as needed and only run an engine driven weld as needed.

In post 9 you talk about equipment. Start with the basics and aquire more as needed. You are correct, smaw is basic and usually the first welder. A torch is more versitile than a plasma cutter as it can be used for cutting and heating plus it can cut thicker steel usually.

Any chance he actually posts again with the ideas he's using to actually MAKE something, or are we just gonna get another thread next week with pics from the internet and questions to make us waste more time telling him how to do things?
