  • 1999 Big Blue 251D cold weather starting

Hey all, I have a 99 Big Blue 251D that has issues starting in cold weather. It doesn’t have a glow plug/preheat function. Anyone have any tips? Thanks

If the doors are on you can put a heat lamp in near the engine. You can run a 5-40 W oil to help with the cranking.

There is an optional ether injector. You can buy a suitable on from napa

I'm always leery of ether with diesels.

Here's what I use (stick it to the oilpan and plug it in):
        Kat's 1155 200 Watt Magnetic Heater

Just another tool available to help survive winter. Ether has a purpose, and can be misused. My thought is if you have a portable machine, you have limited acess to electricity until it is running, at least that has been my situation.
miller used an ether injector, possibly there are other alternatives.

            Good point.

But wait --why not just plug the pan heater into the outlet on the welder?
