  • “Rod Jacking” ????

Guy in a welding video was making huge whip and pause like motions in the bottom of a deep grove with 6010s on a backhoe bucket. He said he was “rod jacking” to fill in a gap in the root. He then changed to 7018 for normal fill passes for the rest.

I thought at first he might be having a seizure. LOL

Anyone heard this term and can describe the process?

it sounds like he was just melting the root in good, pulling out to let it freeze and then going back until hes done. you can call it what you like but doesnt really sound abnormal..

This is the pause and whip, nothing crazy.

Sounds like he made up his own term for it. Basically he is using the arc to melt some metal from the high side ofthe bevel and shove it into the gap.
