  • Modifying a Water Cooled XR-W to Run as a Spoolgun

Hi, I thought I would share this because I hadn't found a related thread and Miller Tech support told me alot of people had asked over the years, but a solution didn't exist. The Miller XR-W is easy enough to convert to work as a Spoolgun, except for the random water cooled power line with a 1/2-20LH threaded compression fitting at power supply end. I wanted to hook mine up to one of my inverters through the WC-24 and weld power through the dinse connection, so I drilled out the 3/8-24 threads LDT-917F Tig adapter to the right size for a 1/2-20 tap (can't remember the size right now), cleaned up the chatter in the mating surface by hand with a countersink bit, and tapped it for 1/2-20LH thread. It's been a couple months and still no issues. I had an extra water connection (red hose) with the right water fitting adapter, but could have just put on the right fitting. Below is a picture with the plastic cover removed. So if you happen across an old XR-W for next to nothing...
