To this day when ever I am in a supermarket and I pass by the soda isle and see Pepsi Cola on the shelves, I think of my buddy. I'm sorry for your loss because I know how it feels.
I know exactly how you feel, it's a painful hurt that we dog lovers must endure, I can get along without having a lot of close friends, but I must have a dog in my life.

I have had many dogs during my life and my current 2 dogs gave me the idea to write this.

      Things you miss...................

The clink of the dog's tags you come home.
The wet floor around his water bowl.
Bringing home a doggy bag when you dine out.
Muddy paw marks on your rugs and sofa.
Strange and smelly things he brings inside.
His nails clicking on your kitchen floor
The cold wet nose at 4:00 AM
The look when he is begging for food
The howling at the fire sirens

The long walks together around the neighborhood
and the handwarmers he leaves for you to pick up.

      A Dog....................

...loves you unconditionally and asks only for a kind word or a pat on the head.
...doesn't care who you voted for.
...never plays politics or holds a grudge.
...will sleep by your feet when you have had a bad day.
      ...makes a house a home.
...will always greet you no matter how late you come home.
...knows when you are down and will come to comfort you.
...has an unspoken bond with you that words can never explain.
...is always ready for a walk even if you just went on one.
...teaches you to think of others and not just yourself.
...will give his life for you.
...can see into your soul but never judges you.
      ...makes your life complete.

A dog loves you even when you fart

Those writings I'm going to save Burnt Hands. Today was the first holiday we spent without my precious wife and our wonderful Toby who guarded us every night while we slept and looked after us while we were awake during the day, Toby's presence comforted us and helped make our family the best it could be, losing his unqualified love and the wonderful memories he gave us, some of which you wrote about, is heartbreaking, having and living 14 wonderful years with Toby was one the greatest blessings the Lord has bestowed on our family. I pray he is heaven with the wife and his three buddies who we also loved and were loved by and also left this world in the last two years. I want another Black Lab but I'm almost 74 and don't wish to befriend and love a dog only to die on him.
