Just picked up my first real Tig

I have the 280dx tig runner at work. Talked my manager into leting me buy it brand new. A year or so latter I bought a used 210dx with like 1-2 hours on it for my self at home to replace my HTP 200 tig/cooler combo. I love the Dynasty so much over the HTP but it still was a good machine. I just think the AC HF starts were much better on the dynasty machine but other than that the HTP worked fine. Far as consumables I use all CK stuff mainly. I also buy the furick cups too. They work great on stainless steel and exotic metals like Inconel and Hastalloy. A standard #5 dose great on aluminum and I would get a #8 gas lenses set up and maybe a #12 furick cup like the "fupa" cup he sells. I have tons of cups and 2 drawers full of consumables of all different types but a #5 standard for aluminum and a #8 gas lenses on a 9/20 style rig will do about most stuff. The #12 or #16 will let you do a long stick out in tight spots so it will help if you get some where you need to pull the tungsten out a ways but just a small set of standard cups will be good to get you going. Stay away from the cheap stuff and spend a few more bucks on the CK stuff as it is the best bang for your buck. I hate to sell my HTP tig 200 but would let it go if some one needs a good tig machine with a cooler. I just got too many other machines and don't really need it anymore. Also get a nice CK 20 flex head torch for that machine. The 280 torch is a nice torch but the one that comes with the tigrunner don't flex. I dealt with that for about a year and once I changed it over to a flex head I was like "why didn't I do that a long time ago". Your going to love the new 280 tho.

I've got the same machine. All I weld is dirty aluminum on pontoons for the most part. I use pretty much exclusively a gas lens 1/8", a number 8 cup, 1/8 wolfram tri-mix tungsten. I did buy a 4 pack of pyrex 8 cups from jody's. They work well if you need to use a mirror to weld behind something but they break really easily. If you tell too loud they break seems like. I 2nd the flex head upgrade.

Sounds to me like I'd take this advice as a solid. You will probably spend a fair bit of time learning to grind tungsten in the beginning, but really, keep it simple as there isn't a need to make it complicated. As far as the kit goes, while most of the cups will hold little use, the torch caps, gas diffusers, collets and bodies will be useful if they fit your torch.

Means a lot coming from a guy who only has a Hobart Handler 135 Hanging out on the Miller web sight.
Not that it really matters as you claim to be a Professional certified welder ????

No...you haven't left an impression on me. Matter of fact, I stopped posting to Autobody 101 because of your complaints to the moderator of my writing style, lengthy replies, and disagreement over some of what you have posted.

As far as trolling, I don't follow you. I follow the information in numerous welding posts on various sites. This OP question was cross posted and I just happened to quote your response in reply from Autobody 101 that suggested you pissed away a lot of money trying to GTAW.

I do have a Tig Machine. Also A MM200, MM 130, and the HH 135 you mentioned. If you do any reading at all you will also find I have the certification paper and work experience to acknowledge my welding background. Can you do the same?
Eat your heart out. I also know how to use it. Something I've proven which is more then I can say for you. If the reader is of the inclination to read previous posts in Autobody 101, they I'm sure will agree.
