Collets for the lathe would probably take some of slack out. Collets are just more accurate anyway, but that’s the trade off for the limited size.

If you remember a few weeks ago a thread where Don52 posted his lathe has the Jacobs flex collets, those are sweet to use.

Oh ok, yea I seen those. I currently dont need more accuracy than what it offers. The 8" chuck they sell is a 4-jaw independent so that would also help. I'll probably get that instead of the 6", which is only 1" larger than stock.

Ya man, the four jaw will be better for sure. Just take a little more time to dial in when you start.

Ordered a cheapie 3-axis DRO from Amazon. Should have it next week. Hopefully should improve on my mickey-mouse machine capabilities. Milling machine wasn't included, lol.

Yeap, still need to get lots of tooling/fixturing for this thing to make it more "complete". Good thing I'm getting a massive raise at work starting in September.

...And what better way to spend a massive raise?

You sure you don’t want to spend it on a book by some craftsman on how to repair wooden wagon wheels or something useful like that? I mean, honestly, what good is modern technology and all?
