Lots of modern machines are made with technology that allows them to be run from single or three-phase, and at several voltage ranges.

Where are you located? Is this a US machine?

I’m from Ireland. It’s a old machine. I have changed over the inside like it’s says but left with a black wire at the plug which is black. What do I do with it

I'm not wholly familiar with your power system there, but just because the plate says 240v doesn't mean it's single phase. Are you sure it's a single or three phase machine?

William, looking at the jumper diagram, yes, your machine can be wired for 240V, but I believe it to be 240V, 3 phase only. Does the machine have a data plate on it?

With those pictures, I'm with the consensus. That's a 3-phase-only machine.

                    Yep--3-phase only.
