  • Just got a second hand Dynasty 300DX !!

Hey guys! Im stoked! Just picked up this Dynasty 300 DX. It came with just the machine and has supposedly 450 hrs of usage. It came from a college, and I did not get any accessories with it unfortunately.

I have a few questions about the machine but first ill show you guys some pics of before and after cleaning.

    - how long can i make the power cable? My old L-Tec machine has about 50 feet. Id like to have a long power cable as I have a big textile plant to work in.

-will a water cooled torche work on this machine? My L-Tec is water cooled and I fit it with a 3 series Flex head CK worldwide torche. I'd like to use this torche on the Miller, but the receptical doesn't look like it will accept it...

-what water cooler should i get? I plan on building a cart for this setup.

-what ground cable should i get? Do i need an attachment?

The machine was pretty rough cosmetically, but when i opened the cover(to look inside and cause the cover was on the wrong way) i was amazed how clean everything was.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Enjoy your machine. It's still ahead of Lincolns aspect technology wise. Its takes standard Dinse 50s. Any cooler will work. I think they originally came with coolmate 3s in tig runner form. A 300 amp ground clamp. As far as cable lengths and size there's other guys on here that can do the math and tell you faster than I could type it. Enjoy. Great machine

So the Dinse 50 connector is for the ground wire.. what about the torch?

My current setup on the L-Tec has
Red : Power and water return
        Back: Argon
        Blue : Feed water

How does it work on the miller?

Can i use my torch as air cooled until i find a used cooler?

        Thank you.

You can download the manual for this machine, but you'll need the serial number, that should get you started setting this up. Enjoy

This is a TIG machine, it doesn't care what torch is attached as long it's done right, the manual will show you how

If you use that water cooled torch without water you'll be buying a new torch in short order.

As Ryan mentioned, using a water cooled torch with out coolant flowing does run the risk of damage. The reason why is they are designed to run higher amps but with coolant circulating to reduce heat build up. Torches are rated for amperage, and the water cooled torches have a higher rating simply due to the coolant circulating around the head. Used at reduced amperage, you probably won't have any problems, but I would guess that most would push that and do so at risk of torch head damage in short order. While a higher rated torch is probably, arguably built a bit more stout, my experience has been they are mostly the same except for the coolant tube around the torches head.

Air cooled are rated to 150 amps. That's not weld all day at 150, that's comfortable at 100, pushed to 150 on occasion. You plan on 125 and up on the regular then hook up a water cooled torch, and with a Dynasty 300DX, your probably going to be doing Aluminum, your going to need it. Other wise, expect over heated nozzles, collet and body, baked O-rings and brittle plastic.

                      Just curious, what province?

Where will you buy the fittings, local or online?
Wherever, you should be able to speak with someone who can tell you what is needed with your TIG torch and machine.

If you have a LWS near that is a Miller distributor that seems ideal

Not all air cooled torches are rated the same. A #9 air cooled is rated at 125amps, for example. Comparatively, a #20 is the same physical size as a #9 only water cooled and is rated to 250amps. Generally speaking of course. The most common torch is a #17 air cooled, it's the torch included with nearly all tig machines when sold new and it's rated to 150 amps. You could go with a #26 torch. Air cooled and rated to 250 amps, but it's the size of a cordless drill just about. I have one and I call it my club.

The numbers don't make a whole lot of sense and I understand they're being changed around to something that does.

Ok ill call the local distributor tomorrow (Praxair).

I found a Cool Mate 4 localy at a fair price. Is this a good buy or is the 1.3 better?
