I need to change the pump in my HF parts washer, has anyone used a different brand pump without having to do much altering to the tank? thanks.

I used alittle giant brand if I remember correctly. I use mineral spirits because I am old fashioned and don't care about neurological damage as much as I care about getting stuff clean. The pump was rated for petroleum/ flammables so less risk of burning the shop down. Plust the wiringwas encased in 1/2" pipe all the way out. The pumps for aqueous solutions are far cheaper from what I remember

Thanks for the information jmmorriso, I once mixed 50/50 fuel oil and mineral spirits, it did an OK job. I bought a gallon of Simple Green's HD Power Washer concentrate this time. I hate the smell of mineral spirits anymore, where as before it never bothered me.

Did you have to make any alterations to your tank? Should I order more hose or will the pump be OK with the hose that came with the parts washer?

I personally don't like have a tub of flammable liquid hanging around, if I can get away from it at least.

What happened to the pump that came in it? Mine has been working so far now for the few years I've had it. Figured one day, probably when I need it the most, it'll give up on me.

Last time I cleaned it out and refilled it, I used that purple stuff horrible freight sells, seems to do a good enough job. If it's cheaper than simple green, it's not much if I remember correctly.

How long have you had yours before the pump needed to be replaced?

Ryan mine only lasted one season. I went back to use the washer in spring and the pump was done for. I'm thinking all the citric cleaner and water didn't drain out of the pump and it froze to death.

Here's the pump I want to put in it so far https://www.zoro.com/little-giant-pa...specifications

here's a Chinese pump that's supposed to be a direct replacemet by one commenter https://www.amazon.com/TTC-Replaceme...ustomerReviews

Sorry for the messed up links, I having to work between two browsers because Photobucket won't let me access my account using firefox.

I'm having trouble deleting and the puter even is locking up, I would like shoot it. I had to make many trips between the two browsers and resave links on fire fox to to edge, . what a huge PIA.

I modded my HF parts washer. I had the steel warehouse bend me some 11 gauge legs, the ones it came with are like paper thin and were way to tall for me with the wheels on. . I was planning to put a recycling tank with a pump on the bottom shelf but I got lazy. The only thing I would do and am going to do different is change the GM filter for a water filter type that goes before the well water holding tank..

On my puter, if I click on any picture the pictures all enlarge and can be changed by clicking on the arrows.

That filter is a really good idea. I actually have one of those filter housings, sitting in box, brand new.

I think it's a fun Mod and the parts to do it are cheap. The ball valve off the pump is needed to stop the fluid from being syphoned out the tank when changing the filter.

I ordered the pump from Zoro, it's going to take a week maybe a little longer but Zoro gave me 15% off on both the wire guides and pump, so I'm OK with waiting for the pump.

Zoro has been good to deal with for me.

That pump is a more expensive than I would have figured.

I called Little Giant and talked to their product specialist about two pumps I had in mind, but he suggested for a 20 gal tank parts washer I instead buy the one I ordered. It supposedly has the best seals and correct flow rate for a 20 gal parts washer, this pump should push more solvent to the brush too.
