Not to be a cocky and arrogant butt head, but after I set my MM172 Challenger and MM180 on their cabinets/stands they are larger than my 251.

Generally much lighter weight and smaller form factor. If that matters to you.

Since I removed the hot start feature on my 251, my machine has a beautiful start and smooth and steady arc. It both short circuit welds and spray arcs without a hitch. I don't understand how an inverter machine could weld so much better? Since I don't have an inverter mig available I can try, can someone tell me what I'm missing out on beside the power savings and 120 volt hook up? Thanks.

I've been riding the same fence about engine drives. Keep holding off waiting to see if they come out something like an inverter generator model.

I don't think that will happen. I think its more economics trying to move some 252's. But I have been wrong before...Bob

I currently have a multimatic 215 for my MIG and it's so much smoother and nicer than my millermatic 210. I want a heavier mig welder, but im worried the 252 being a transformer will weld more like the 210 than the inverter based 215..... I have a dynasty 350 which is my go to, but a 300amp MIG would be nice. I just dont want to buy the 252 if an inverter based 300amp welder is coming out in the next few months.

Millermatic 252 replacement....
Does anyone know if and or when the millermatic 252 will come out? The 252 has a $300 rebate right now, sounds like they are trying to make way for a new machine? maybe a larger inverter based mig welder? I want to upgrade my current mig but i dont want to do it if a inverter based in on the near horizon....Tags: None
