14 OZ mapp and oxy question

Anyone have experience running a Little Torch on 14 OZ Oxy and Mapp bottles? I'm wondering how long the bottles will last using them on a Little Torch outfit? I want a small portable repairs outfit I can Silver Solder with at the computer bench.

I have quite a bit of experience with a little torch. As for how long it lasts....well that depends on your usage of course. Plan to burn through at least three O2 bottles for every bottle of gas. I eventually traded my small cylinders out for real gas cylinders. I changed to propane and oxygen too, which I think is far safer if you're planning on storing it in your house. I keep those little regulators as backups, but haven't used them since I swapped. <br />

Ryan I have the larger bottle set up but they're still to big for keeping under my desk, I do repair jobs from the grandkids toys to small projects I think up, like making the funnel pictured, most anything that needs to be soldered I use use silver on if it can take the heat. I was just given a two piece tower /torch lamp? whose post won't screw together tightly any longer do to the threaded insert no-longer being fixed solidly inside the one tube, I have it screwed together and straight but it still needs to be SS to stay together.

One down side of those small regulators is no gauge, not the end of the world, you should be relaxing the spring inside there anyway when you're down using it. You also can't shut the gas off independently of the regulator, another bad side. I'm gonna give posting a picture from iPhone a try here, this is my setup. The little torch fittings screw right on to the regulators. I think it's called a type B fitting?

One word of caution is those gas hoses are not very skookum at all. They are not rated for any sort of industrial or "shop" duty. Even sitting under that bench like mine is, I had some damage to the propane hose and had to make a repair. Glad I was using propane....I could smell it immediately.

Tackit, what are you making with the tin can solder thing? And what is the purpose of the drill motor with something in the copper tube?
