Taking off the regulator is a good idea, especially as it makes it a lot easier to secure it properly.
Capped should be done if available, and caps are available that fit around regulators that stay installed for those who use it frequently and are where no one cares.
But upright? Hey, if it's secure, it's secure. Unless you live somewhere or on some jobsite where they actually care. Some do. I don't.
