Everyone, Thanks for all the inputs and advice! I guess I always want to fix things and not throw repairable stuff away, but it sounds like the risks may not outweigh the benefits in this case. And in case anyone is interested, this was a Harbor Freight 60 gal compressor that was well maintained and was used in a picture framing shop to power their air tools.
