  • Miller Diversion 180 only putting out 10 amps

Been looking into this online and seems like I'm not alone with this problem. Out of warranty so no help there. Air Luiquide said it was a bad control board and wanted 1000 dollars to fix. Seemed a bit steep to me. Almost seemed to me that the Hall effect transducer is broken and not letting the voltage vary. Does anyone know the location of the switch and what input output voltages should be? Also I haven't been able to find the control board or Hall switch online if anybody knows where to find them that would be great the machine powers on just fine and arcs prefect just no juice behind it. Bet I could weld a soda can. Welder has had light use. Kind of feel something in the board or Hall sensor is faulty with these machines and should be recalled. Anyone else with this problem? Thanks guys

Apparently no one with Diversion exp has seen your post. You might give Miller tech support a call-generally very helpful. Looks like there isn't much in that machine that isn't on a PC board, and the 1K price sounds like others I've heard of.

Thanks, I'm just still surprised it broke. Always had really bullet proof machines from miller this one is only 3-4 years only with minimal use. Kinda sucks to throw a grand at something that's only worth probably 1500 on a good day. Kind of like blowing the motor on your 3 year old pickup. Just surprising. I was just looking to fix myself to help offset the labor cost. Thank you

Problem is you can't get diagrams to work on the boards. But, Miller has every right to protect their intellectual property. You can watch ebay for a tech manual that has detailed diagrams but not likely to find it on a newer machine like the diversion.

I understand that. Just pisses me off that it is probably some stupid 10 dollar part in the board that is screwing me up that I'm sure I could just soder in. It seems to me it's the Hall effect but I have no idea where that is on the board and what the proper input output voltages should be from the Hall sensor. I'll try calling miller but I'm sure they will want me to purchase the board from a local dealer. Which they have every right to do.

I'm right with you. Been fixing boards for 40+ years. Gets harder and harder, to almost impossible in many cases now. As you say, very irritating to know the problem is a $10 part but there's just nothing you can do about it.

Did you get this fixed or find what the problem was?
