  • Can't get fire to plugs

Miller Legend AEAD 200LE, S/N JK641540 won't start. I checked the start/throttle solenoid (good), Oil pressure switch (good) still no fire. What next? Can any one help me to move forward?

Fouled plugs from trying to start it over and over?
    Replace plugs.
Will it fire up with a shot of starter fluid then die?
    Getting fuel?
    Gas tank dirty?

Check coil ? Proper voltage at coil positive ?

I verified it isn't a fuel problem. I read somewhere to verify voltage from the CB4 to the start Throttle solenoid. I did and I get 12 volts in the on position but goes to none in the start/ run position.

I believe on start run position it would start at low idle meaning no 12 volts going to solenoid only when you strike a arc or set the weld power/switch to weld ,with auto idle off it should rev right up to weld speed ,I thought it wouldn't run because of no spark condition ?I would check your coil and if it's old enough the points can't remember when onan switched over .D

With switch in run position ignition on you should have 12 volts at coil if not check your ignition switch for 12 volts coming out the switch when switched to run make sure your battery is fully charged ,any pics of the machine ?D

Which engine do you have....?? Onan or Kohler...??? Model...??

sounds like you could use an engine manual

Its the Onan, can it be a failed CB4 switch?

Because the oil pressure switch is open with the engine not running, there will not be any 12VDC at the coil with the ignition switch in the RUN position. However, there should be while cranking as the by-pass diode allows 12VDC(+) to the coil from the START signal at the starter.

If you have 12VDC(+) at the coil while cranking and still no spark at the plugs then I suspect the ignition module behind the flywheel has failed.

PM me an email address and I'll send you the engine Service Manual that covers testing.
