retired makes it worse. I can see when your working. The time to make it costs more then to just buying one. Especially at only $70. Material costs alone are probably half that. But now you got nothing but time.

But joking aside, my mother retired from the federal government about two months ago after 40 years. She says now she is busier and on the go more now than when she was working full-time.

Congrats, Norm. I retired one year ago in Nov. Now busier than ever but much less stressful. Now you can enjoy welding for fun instead of the pressure to make a living. And I think you've bought a great machine to do it with.

Thanks Ryan;

It's a little cold for fishing @ minus 20C. , here in Southern Ontario.
I'm right off the North Shore of Lake Erie.

In the Spring for sure !

Yes, I hear ya, Lots of things to get cleaned up, then it's relax time.
I've been busy selling All my equipment , got it done in Six Weeks.

I've always wanted to get into the artistic side of the welding industry, after spending many years as an Iron Worker turned business man ( Mobile Welding )

That's where the new Multi-matic 215 will come in handy, can weld mig/stick & I can learn to Tig weld.
Tig really didn't fit into what I've done all my life.

Looking forward to the up coming months and years of enjoyment !

We'll be looking for some cool stuff on the projects page! Enjoy! I absolutely love artistic welding but am about as artistic from the design viewpoint as a fence post. I'm pretty good at executing ideas but not coming up with them. So, I really enjoy seeing others' work

So far my issues is that it's not really all that smart, just a fancy display on a nice multi-purpose machine and will run on 120V for thin stuff. In some sense I should have just got one of the smaller Millermatic's as I have a nice Tig and larger Mig machine but the allure of fancy technology got me. One thing I really like is the ingenious cord and voltage selection based on the plug.

I think in the long run what I'm going to feel like is I have a nice machine with a fancy digital display for volts and feed (mig).

Dang, and I was looking into getting one. Not what I wanted to read, lol. So far my MM 211 has worked great on AutoSet for 0.030" & 0.035" solid and flux core wire. But never tried 0.023".

You convert thickness to amperage (0.001 in = 1 amp)
then for .023 wire they say 3.5 inches per amp.

So so if you have 16 Ga sheet...
.060 inches = 60 amps
60 amps x 3.5" per min = 210 inches per min.

Thats not even close to what they have in there charts. It would be for 12ga using their recommendations (.094 thick)
Careful now. No where does it say that it is how they come up with their AutoSet numbers.

According to the manual, 0.023" is only useful up to 90A, which seems to indicate a maximum guideline suggested WFS of 90 * 3.5 = ~315 IPM. I suppose it just takes some fidgeting around.

Well , I tried out my new MM 215 and it works great.

Now, can I run Aluminum without a Spoolgun , on the short 10ft. whip supplied , or do I have to get a Spoolgun ?

On all my other welders, I just used a 10ft. whip , while running 5356 Al. wire. - Not 4043 Al. wire.

How big of wire are you planning on running? My MM250 pushes 3/64th 5356 through a 10' whip like a beast. I haven't the slightest clue what your machine's max would be. Give it a try.

I tried pushing .035 4043 through an older Lincoln wire feed that I had and it was nothing but irritating. Would weld for an inch or so and then bird's nest on me. I know for sure it was the stock whip, so it was probably 12'. I think the newer machines are designed better and seem to have a better chance of success, looks like a smaller gap between the drive rolls and the inlet to the whip. Give it a shot though.

Someone gave me a small whip for a miller machine, which I have no use for. If anyone could use it and would like to experiment by cutting it down, it's yours.

I've run .035" & 3/64th " through a 10ft. many times over the yrs. I guess what I was asking was, the new MM 215 has the setups for everything except Aluminum mig, Spool Gun " Yes " but not using a mig whip.

PS. - I always run 5356 AL. , not 4043 , unless I am using a spool gun.
I'm not going to buy a spool gun , unless I have to....... lol.
